to maximize a certain kind of diversity that excludes low-income students since it's one of the least diverse schools in the county

Yes it's a great school that isn't very diverse.

Not very MCPS diverse. But definitely diverse enough.

but it's nothing like the county which is diverse

this person has to be a troll - the county is diverse as a whole - every geographic region contributes to that diversity as a whole - go into Langley Park and tell me it is diverse, you can't it is predominately Hispanic - go into certain neighborhoods in Rockville and tell me it is diverse, you can't it is predominately Asian.

You can't be this oblivious

These trolls just have political agenda. Obviously they don’t respect that each racial group prefers to live together and form their own community. It’s people’s own choice and MCPS should not try to do social engineering. Instead, focus on teaching. There is a big decline in teaching quality in MCPS but BOE doesn’t seem to care.

That's what's killing the MCPS. Trying to solve social issues via schools at kids expense. I am sure BOE cares, they just care about the wrong things. They focus on everything except, kids, teaching, and learning. So f'ed.

Some might also argue that Wootton's terrible boundary was an example of social engineering back in the 80s designed to minimize diversity.

Possible. But that proves social engineering by school boundaries doesn’t work. People will just move around.

I am the PP and I disagree with you to a degree. I believe that schools should be diverse and agree that the BOE can help with that. For instance the GP/Kensignton/Wheaton area was blatantly drawn to go against diversity years ago and this should be fixed.

My take is simply that a school like Wootton (With terribly drawn boundaries by the way) is diverse. Whether the troll here wants to believe it or not it is. Everything will not be enough for everyone but that is the way life works. Some things will never be enough and you have th echoice to go live where it will be.

I love him - he has brought an element of fun and spirit to the school that was very necessary!

Parents don’t like Mr. Nelson? How come?

I have no idea. Heard he is not very militant. This is a school of overachievers, kids and parents. Some want him to act as a commander in chief. Who knows. I think he is great.

The previous principal was not militant either. I like him.

It's they way they want to be, and they are jealous.

(That's a rhetorical question, btw.)

In MoCo we are proud of our diversity diversity

It probably has more ethnic groups than the diverse part you refer to. It just doesn’t have the diversity per your definition. But diverse is diverse.

It really doesn't and it has 0 SES diversity too.

Stop lying. Don’t lump all kinds of Asians together. They have distinctively different culture, language and different look. It doesn’t have high farm rate but most people are not rich. Wootton is really for middle class people who can’t afford Potomac or Bethesda or even Rockville. Many residents bought townhomes at $300k-400k a decade ago and can’t afford today’s price. MCPS SES data are single dimensional and only based on who qualify for free meals but not measuring these who barely made it but still struggle to make a living.
