LOL, please disregard this person who has probably never set foot in Somerville. North Bethesda (AKA Rockville), Kensington, and Garrett Park are absolutely nothing like Somerville, they are significantly more suburban. That being said Garrett Park and the historic parts of Kensington are absolutely lovely and feel more like leafy New England suburbs than most of the sprawly suburban hellscape you find in this area. If I wanted to replicate a Cambridge lifestyle, I would look at Capitol Hill, Mount Pleasant, or Historic Takoma but honestly Boston and Cambridge are generally much safer than most of DC.
Fully agree. Kensington and Somerville could not be more different (as far as attractive places to live go).
I live in the non historic part of Kensington. The historic part near the train station and downtown area is really nice, but it depends on your commute. There are houses similar to Cleveland parks, you can easily walk to grocery stores etc. I would not advise my parent of Kensington for someone who likes Cambridge. Mine is boring suburbia. Like Levittown. Perfectly nice but not cute or urban.
Depends on her budget. My favorites are Woodley Park and Cleveland Park. Take a Park is cute too but further out than those two. She might like Capitol Hill.

Glover is so, so overrated. Crowded and bad row homes with idiotic random “pop ups” sprinkled throughout.
NP. I loved living in Glover Park, and miss it. We're now sadly priced out for our needs, but are half considering a condo just to move back. It's a great neighborhood.

Other areas that will feel safe and have good schools are are woodley park, Cleveland park, van ness, tenleytown, Chevy chase. A group of 10-12-year-old kids in bicycles carjacked someone on Adams Mill the other evening. There are armed robberies often. Someone even tried to force our front door open last week.
News just came out that they’re going to be building low income housing right at 18th & Columbia. Thanks to the “neighborhood activists”, Truist gave up and donated that corner to Jubilee to develop. Doesn’t seem like that’s going to help the current neighborhood residents.
