You can always rent a gas powered car if you want to take a long road trip. EV’s are good for daily commuting.

Along same lines but instead of renting bought a traditional gas-powered minivan that's the "haul kids and dog around town" vehicle, plenty of room in the back for fido and kids to change clothes between ECs and haul all the equipment and so on... as well as pack in luggage and have a more comfy ride/environment for long weekend road trips to neighboring states, etc. without to manage the logistical constraint of charging times/locations. Could substitute for a mid+ SUV if minivans rub your ego the wrong way, but we're more practical about function over style/status.

Smaller (non-Tesla) EV is wonderful and cheaper for commuting, running errands, and so on around town. This two-car combo is perfect for our family until/unless AVs are able to fill in some of these needs at some indeterminate point in the future and/or the kids become drivers themselves (still years down the road).

Tesla's are for fanboys and think they are elite with their cheap plasticized cars that die at a big puddle or a fender bender. I LOVE my Rivian. I loved it so much we got the truck to go with the other one.

Corollas are much cooler cars than Teslas. They are qualitatively better. Elon Musk has done a lot to destroy the brand. But Toyota generally makes pretty good cars. Whereas Teslas tend to be problematic

Would love love love for teslas to be the equivalent of corollas - no nonsense cars that require minimal maintenance and refuse to die. My last corolla outlasted my mortgage. We have two teslas, solar panels on our roof, and I hope to be driving them at 500k miles. I have paid less than $100 this year in charging costs to drive 12k miles.

Huh? The "elite" are buying electric Volvos, BMWs, Lucids and ID.4 Pros, all equal to or more expensive than the cheap Teslas. If wanting to think you're "elite" is the issue (and you're stupid for thinking that's top of mind for many or most car buyers), anybody can achieve "elite" status without buying a bland Musk-mobile.

On another note, I used to drive a Camry wagon my ILs gave us. Its styling was about as bland as a Tesla.

+1 Wealthy people aren't buying Teslas. They are buying Lucid, Rivian, other "prestige brands". Tesla is very middle class, maybe even lower middle class at this point. A Tesla Model 3 costs $20K less than a KIA EV. Think about that.

LMC here and I can testify that we are not buying Teslas.
