"Doomed to a B"? It's this attitude right here that makes school miserable for many students.

Every year at this time of year, people at your school complain about admissions and then in the spring, surprise!, it all works out.
But really, the “joke” school?
I don’t think the other school is a joke. I meant the DCUM people call it that way. Joke’s on the haters because this particular school is doing really well so far in admissions.

Now that your DC is a senior can you update how things went after that rocky start? Did she improve during the rest of freshman year?

Does anyone else have a kid failing a subject.....Now they aren't putting effort into tests because they say it doesn't matter they still fail.

We chose a school that we expected would be balanced...sports, academics, quality of life, for a HS student that values that. Its has been a lot more work than we expected, with teachers giving quizzes with one day notice on top of several hours of hw from other classes. It's not everyday but it is often enough that we haven't been able to get into a workable groove or consistently score well (sometimes even passing) on tests. Also a straight A middle school student. Hoping things even out but losing hope.

Your DC's first term/quarter/trimester grades are not that important utlimately to colleges, however as a parent it is healthy to be aware of the transition and encourage THEM, the child, to work with teachers to determine how serious the setback is or if its simply growing into HS
