I'm retired and I often do a whole lot of nothing all day. By that I mean sleep really late, lay in bed watching TV for an hour before I feel like actually getting up, then cruise the internet for hours, read, watch TV, take a nap, eat, more of same. I also sometimes play golf, swim, take a walk, shop, talk on the phone or text, and hang out with friends. I also go on occasional trips. I do tutor an hour a week as a volunteer and two hours a week for pay. I do it all on a limited income but it's a great life if you can make it happen, which I did. Obviously my contributions to society are minimal now but when I worked I was contributing way more than most people do in a lifetime.

Question for people who do nothing much. Who is financially supporting you? What would you do if that person decided not to do so anymore. Would you look for someone else to support you?

I worked hard all my life and am now retired. Kids are grown, spouse is happy, I'm happy. Who cares if I spend most of my time reading, watching shows, cooking, and staring out the window? I like what the PP said about helping society by not adding to traffic.

I like doing nothing. I also use less of everything if I stay home. That's kind of like contributing to society.
Doing nothing all day is the best for me for now. I promise. Sometimes I do go to work, but it's not a must. It's a really good day for my boss when I waltz to work. His face lights up.

I mean, I am a SAHM to teens if that's what OP means. I do all the cooking and cleaning and child schlepping though. DH helps a little. I would do this forever but I know DH doesn't want that. He'd have me working now if it were up to him but I'm waiting until the youngest leaves because he won't have a serious discussion with me about what chores he's taking on if I start working outside the home.

I've done all three of the below, and I'm not sure which was most useful to society and family.

1) worked outside of home
2) stayed home and did all housework and homeschooled
3) stayed home and did "nothing." Sometimes that included regular housework, sometimes just watched TV and petted the cat.
