I no longer walk in my neighborhood after dark, I stay away from Columbia Heights at all hours, and I’m beginning to avoid Van Ness as much as possible. If it gets any worse I will probably move. I’m furious with Bowser and the City Council for the voucher fiasco and the laissez-faire attitude on crime.

And you can safely ignore the "Tenleytown is a crime-ridden hellscape when J-R lets out in the afternoon" mouth-breathers who soon will be brigading this thread.
So the PP is the mom of JR students? OP - do ask each and every business around JR their opinion on this topic that PP raises. Ask the librarians across the street. Ask the Metro workers. Due diligence from independent sources will educate you on JR and its impact on Tenlytown.
Like clockwork, the racists emerge.
I am _classist_ and a neighbor of JR and Deal. I loathe the after school hour around CVS. Occasionally I will succumb and watch the shoplifting train wreck anyway while I’m waiting for a prescription. Then I head home past the drug dealers hanging in the bushes around the “vape” store. So vibrant!
No you're racist. You have no black or brown freinds at all.
NP. Are you a Russian troll or just an idiot. Ot better yet a bot who was trained to type “ racist” when anyone laments the increasing crime rate in DC. And grow the f up. Signed DC resident for 23 years.

Once by axing through a substantially heavy front door to override alarm somehow. All were day time robberies when house empty. I’ve lived in my current house in Chevy Chase, DC since mid 90s and have always felt safe, but things still happen and there has been an increase lately. I the late 90s, neighbors and I both had daytime break ins with minor things stolen, but nothing since in terms of break ins. However, in the last year, my car’s airbag was stolen, neighbors have had airbags and catalytic converters stolen, there have been armed car jackings within a few blocks in two directions and two nearby CVS locations and the Safeway have had multiple smash and grab robberies. There have also been smash and grab robberies nearby in Friendship Heights.

Things are worse in Tenleytown now. Some things you see now you didn't see then:
- Vagrants sleeping on the middle of the sidewalk with their pants down.
- Vagrants wandering around the neighborhood in the middle of the night trying to get into different establishments.
I also saw tents in Fort Reno the other day - are vagrants living there now?
Then move
DC is far better than it was in the 80s and 90s. It’s a world class city compared to a sleepy government town.
Growing pains are occurring but hopefully they clamp down on crime

We’ve had a few stabbings and the crowd that hangs outside is stunning especially the guy who stood outside of the Giant today and told everyone to ……..his…..
