Everyone, there is a lot of information on this thread that is not current. I wish I could "pin" the following.

(1) Starting with the freshman 2024 class (so current high school seniors who are applying), McIntire School of Commerce (UVA's undergrad Business School) will be a three-year program -- students will apply their freshman year, not their sophomore year. This has been publicly announced.

(2) Although I'm not sure it has it has been publicly announced, UVA also plans to start offering a Business/Commerce minor.

These are significant and much-needed changes in my opinion. When considering schools, students still need to consider that even if they clear the challenging UVA admittance hurdle, they still might not be able to "major in Business", i.e., gain admission into McIntire (admission rate has been @60%), but now students will know at the end of their freshman year and if they are not admitted and still interested in business, they have the option of a Business Minor. It's also important in light of the fact, as previous posters have mentioned, many undergrad business programs are four-year programs.

As an aside, although referred to as the "Commerce School", McIntire is UVA's undergrad "Business School" and it directly competes with/and is considered one of the best business programs among every other undergraduate business program no matter what they are called.

Do you have to bash everyone to make yourself feel more important? I actually learn from these posts and am here to learn. A lot of time the results come back in a weird, not-helpful order. I find that using the advanced features and sorting by date makes it much more useful.

Yep. Just like Niche, which is crowd-sourced. Useless.

Niche is terrible but Poets and Quants is actually the most influential source of information now about MBAs, undergrad business schools, etc. Not a crowd-sourced site at all; more of an aggregator. It's where insufferable striver business kids go for information when they're not lurking at Wall Street Oasis.

BTW, am I the only one who think the DCUM search function is rudimentary and not that helpful? Maybe I'm missing some functions.

I see this type of comment a lot and as someone trying to learn about VA schools I have to say it's not that easy. I'd like to get a general sense of these schools from people in the area, but there sooo much booster this, laughable that, my DC went to XXXXX U which led to spectacular college and career success and so on... The 80 million posts will contain a lot of useful insights but it's just so much fighting and anonymous self-promotion (to what end?) as soon as the discussion is about VA schools it's hard to see the forest for all the trees.

And yes, I realize I should look elsewhere and no-one promised me a rose garden (the collective DCUM self-dismissiveness is notable), I just happen to like crowd sourcing by reading discussion fora (and of course mentally filtering). And I think DCUM is quite helpful on many other issues.
