The only person I knew of in college that got pregnant and had the child had gotten married at the end of sophomore year and then had a baby with her husband during senior year. No idea if the timing was planned but they hadn't gotten married because she was pregnant. That was super unusual IMO. FWIW they've been married over 30 years now and went on to have two more kids.

I'm sure there were many more who got abortions but not something I would know about.

I guess it also depends on what sort of social circle your kids have. This is just not a norm for ambitious UMC youth. Not one of my kid's friends got pregnant in college. All were on birth control and aware of consequences of getting pregnant.

I don't remember a lot of talk about this in college, but I can tell you that probably half the girls I knew in high school got pregnant -- all of them terminated. One of my two best friends from hs did get pregnant freshman year of college and left school and had the baby. It was a total disaster.

I knew of 2 of my friends in college. One had an abortion, the other dropped out, got married, and had the baby. Both are happy living the life they chose.

I am certain there were more. Those are just two I knew about

Uncommon and rare in my DD's group of friends. I have not even heard of one case. Come to think of it, I have not even heard of one person in their HS or college having a baby or being pregnant! Who is your DD hanging out with? What SES, what race, what religion, what state?

Um, yeah. Her kids were in STEM magnets for elementary, middle, and high school and had internships and did research in college!!! So of course pregnancy and STDs were off the table, duh.

One of my three freshman roommates (we were in a two-room suite) got pregnant in the spring. She didn’t return to college after that and we lost touch.

In Googling her, it looks like she married the baby’s father and then divorced, got married a second time, and owns an interior design company.

Only an idiot would send their daughter off to college without first putting her on the pill. I was explicit with all three that we were paying for am education not for them to get laid.

Not surprising. If she had wanted to stay together, she would have told him about the pregnancy. She didn't want to be forced to be with him, therefore he wasn't told.

I had three friend during the four years of college who were all raped, two at frat parties and one during a first date. Two did get abortions, and one did adoption.

Assume the child that was adopted was never told her dad was a rapist.

I knew of 2. One in my Catholic college gave her baby up for adoption and a friend from a different school had an abortion. I knew of 1 pregnancy in high school senior year. She had the baby and married the father.

This is a completely insane response, and I had a kid in my 20s (rare in this area). The brain is not fully developed until the mid-20s. And it's not ideal to disrupt one's higher education with a pregnancy.


If you have familial resources it’s always easier to go back to school at any time but the optimal window for having children is roughly constant.

A quick goggle search says if your weight and BMI are high, most plan B are less effective so ask your OBGYN or pharmacist about best suitable option. However, if only a certain type is available then do take it, odds are still better than no or delayed plan. IUDs are better preventative birth control than pills for overweight females.

Oh, I will add that 1 of these pregnancies came about after the young woman took Plan B. However, she did not know there was a recommended weight limit for Plan B! It is less effective if you weigh over 165 lbs. If you weigh over 195 lbs. then it's pretty much not effective at all.
