Of the two, Vandy seems to be on the higher upswing. It might be in Tennessee, but Nashville is a very blue city. Most find it more enjoyable than Evanston
So you clearly don’t know all the smart kids. My smart kid from from a DC private and several of DC’s friends all applied to Georgetown, a couple also applied to NU and not one of the group applied to Vandy. My DC wanted no part of a southern, Greek-oriented, preppy school.

No, I don’t know every smart kid, but the acceptance rate for both Vanderbilt and Northwestern is half of the rate for Georgetown. The trends are changing.
I hope your kid’s friends got into Georgetown or NU or whatever school they prefer. You can’t go wrong! I just wouldn’t choose Gtown if I had the other choices (not purely based on ranking- for other reasons that I’m sure are driving the acceptance rates).

two schools on entirely different trajectories. If you asked me this question 20 years ago, I would have laughed at their comparison and said Georgetown easily. Now Vandy has established itself firmly as one of the “hottest” schools not only in the South but the entire country. In my DCs wide and varied friend group (both top public and private school kids in the NY metro region), interest in Vandy blew away Georgetown - they are not viewed in the same class. Vandy has the “it” factor at this time, like it or not it’s real
Agree. If you’re going to pass up Vanderbilt, do it for Northwestern. Not Georgetown. Times have changed- I too remember when Georgetown was top-of-the-list (or way up there) for many east coast kids. Not anymore. Absent a compelling reason to attend college in DC, I would drop it off the list entirely if I were your daughter.

You've been admitted to none of the above. Bye!
