I hope this is a troll post. Otherwise it is a great travesty.
This may be a lot of things, most likely a troll post but some rando UMC kid having to go a non top 50 college is anything but a travesty.
Did you look at that kids stats? Here is a snippet - "1580 SAT, UMC, straight A, multiple AP, highest rigor, multiple award winning"
Those are not easy to get. It takes a lot of commitment and hardwork. I know because I have seen my son go through it for similar stats.
Here, here! I’ve learned that it’s much easier to talk about, march about, and hang a sign about anti racism instead of being an anti racist.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Yes but the essay is where the 1560 SAT 4.0/4.5 kid looks different from the 1570 SAT 4.0/4.5 kid.
Oh please, demographics matter much more.
The ability of people on this forum to deny clear, obvious facts in pursuit of their white grievance narrative is amazing. After their privileged kids spend 13 years at schools that are 100 times safer and better than those that most people in America (white, black, Asian, and Hispanic) attend, these parents are able to discount that, as well as the fact that CS programs are OVERWHELMINGLY white and male and increasingly UMC and claim that they are being discriminated against.
As a white, male, CS grad who grew up poor in the kind of place most of these delicate DCUM snowflakes would never visit, I’m appalled at the weakness and entitlement of these posts.

Yes, very demoralizing to kids have worked hard and been high achievers throughout school to see that the key factor in admissions is demographics.
Right there couldn’t possibly be someone as qualified or more qualified than your kid amongst the thousands and thousands that applied. Some dumb black kid or poor Hispanics most certainly took his spot.
Also we aren’t in the midst of one of the largest classes of college applicants ever that’s peaking over the next couple years and then will decrease. Nope it’s definitely “diversity” and someone less qualified took your perfect candidate kid’s spot. It’s also not that half the schools have kids with straight As and tons of activities and awards.
“Diversity” is the new white cope for I didn’t get what I thought I deserved.
Ironically as a hiring manager I am being pushed to look beyond T10 and even T30 schools for candidates. I hope these kids aren’t accumulating too much debt and really enjoy their four years …
A company I worked for discussed removing school names from the resumes to avoid bias and cronyism. I have hired at 3 companies and none of them emphasized t-10, 20 or what we schools. It may matter in a couple industries or slightly at entry level, but it is not nearly as important as folks on here think.
+1000
Especially for CS. If you can complete the degree, you can get a job from any college.

That could be part of it. It could also be school selection. My son and a couple of his buddies were certain that they will get into t10s. They are all having a truly humbling experience. As somebody on Reddit put it - CS can make your safeties look like reach schools.
Yes, certainly admissions workers would not have understood the technical terms. White males and Asians really need to be strong in a sport nowadays otherwise they get passed over for lower stats of other ethnicities.
When multiple schools return the same decision, you have to wonder if that t was a strong as the OP is saying it was. Or did they aim too high, not realizing that thousands of top students are competing for a few hundred spots?

don’t really post much but my DC got into a T15 as a TO WUMC female - test scores low 1300s, never would’ve applied to this school before TO
the rules of the game have changed and people with high stat kids who are getting rejected feel screwed

This is correct. And I think it’s exceptionally tough for this changeover group of students, who started high school under one set of rules and saw the game change beneath their feet, with no transition period. Today’s freshmen will have better-calibrated expectations, and will have made decisions throughout high school based on the new rules.
In precise terms, how has the game changed? Is it that one only has likely schools on their college lists?

Agreed. I don't get why dcum targets URMs with their ire, when there just aren't that many URM admits at the top schools. I guess they are easy targets for their frustrations.
You don’t get it? Seriously?
