I totally agree. We only get 18 years with them before they are off for the most part, why rush it.

Our k-8 had 6 admits that I know of and 3 rejections, the admits were significantly lower than last year. 2 of the rejections were very surprising, I would have put money on those 2 particular kids getting in. We were told by the school that current 9th grade was bigger than anticipated and they didn't want to repeat that, so they extended less admittances for this new rising 9th grade class.

As someone whose kid got in for 9th, I don’t know how to answer this. At least six 8th graders from our k-8 got in and at least one did not (but that child has a rocky discipline record). Otoh, our k-8 has a very good relationship with SSSAS and usually sends multiple kids every year. But we were also told that the number of applications were up, at least for 9th, so we didn’t know what to expect before decision day.
