Also, the prevalence of alcohol culture is such a red herring. Outside of actual alcoholics, I’ve never seen anyone in DC walking down the sidewalk at 10am swigging from an open container, yet I’ve now seen dozens and dozens of people smoking a joint or vaping at that hour. “It’s not addictive.” Then why are people getting high at all hours every day? And most people are not drinking when driving either, yet hotboxed cars are everywhere, again, all day long.

Thank you for pointing this out. The supposed argument that weed smokers try to make -- "But, but, but alcoholllll is legal!" is such nonsense.
If my neighbor is drinking in his home, I can't see, hear or smell it. It has zero effect on me inside my home. But if my neighbor is toking, especially frequently, it absolutely affects me. Same would be true with tobacco, frankly, though weed seems worse than tobacco for permeating everything.
No the smell s not harming you anymore than a neighbor cooking spicy food. Smells are to be expected in multi family housing. Deal with it.
Bullshit.
Weed smoke is psychoactive and carcinogenic.
Back when they tried to ban cigarettes, they used the argument that everyone has a fundamental human right to breathe clean air free from cigarette smoke. That same reasoning should apply to weed. Stop exposing everyone to psychoactive plumes of smoke that are also carcinogenic.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Why can't their be laws in place regarding smoking weed? Just like they did with smoking cigarettes? Why can't that happen? Why can't we treat weed just like we do with cigarettes and alcohol? Yes, it can be legal but must have all the restrictions?
Also, this would likely punish people of color more than other races, and that would never fly in the DMV. Not #Equitable.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:It’s better than tobacco smoke. I realized when I was stuck walking behind someone smoking a cigarette on the sidewalk the other day that, while I really don’t like smelling weed as much as I do, I prefer it to cigarettes!
Walking by or behind someone smoking pot doesn’t make me cough, my clothes and hair don’t smell like it for the rest of the day. In my neighborhood some of it actually smells pretty good. Never could say that about cigarettes!
Try living in a condo, apartment or townhouse where your neighbors smoke pot regularly. Even outdoors, on a patio or balcony. You'll change your tune. It won't "actually smell pretty good" when it permeates your home, furniture, clothing and the air you breathe. Pot smoke absolutely can seep through walls, shared attic space, anything, and neighbors' homes where walls, floors or ceilings adjoin will start to stink. And you cannot paint walls or clean upholstery enough to get the f**k RID of it. So enjoy your high-horse "well, walking by someone smoking pot isn't so bad!" crap but know that as soon as you get a regular weed smoker as a neighbor, you are going to change your tune.
