The documentary sets it up like Alex paid him to perhaps frame him for the murders?
And then does the cousin allege that Alex asked him to shoot him, but did the cousin actually shoot Alex? Was there a head wound? (From a bullet?)

Also, are the cousin’s whereabouts known for the night of the shooting?

All those kids knew he was drunk behind that boat wheel. An accident was not surprising. I was surprised how there weren't many car accidents, gun accidents, etc., up to that point.

Morgan’s family seemed honestly pretty clueless about the level of drinking (and what Paul was like— he obviously could put on a good show). I think the Cook family is a different story, since they were tight socially with the Murdaughs. In the HBO doc either Anthony’s or Connor’s parents commented about how they had warned their kid that if there was trouble the Murdaughs would be out for themselves. And yet they were close friends? It sounded like they saw the family for what it was but were happy to enjoy the benefits of being close to them and allow their children to be in their orbit as well. At great price.

I think being connected to this family through their kids was a Southern thing. Status. And let me say, this isn't unusal , unfortunately. It occurs all over, but the South does it just like this.

Yeah, the pacing was really weird. It was over one episode on the boating accident and then everything else was shoved into the remaining 1.5 episodes. I wonder if it’s because they didn’t have more info on the other incidents. Like the embezzlement from the firm? The drug dealing?

Seems like they jumped the gun and needed more info to come out.

It has come out in the trial. In short, Just before the murder Paw Paw was taking a video of Ro Ro's dog Cash for Ro Ro and in the background you can hear Mags and Elick wrangling with Bubba who had gotten a chicken in his mouth. Paw Paw sent the video to Ro Ro which has been used as proof that Elick lied about being down at the kennels and as evidence that he is the likely murderer. I believe the heroic chicken did not survive. I believe Bubba is living with Mags' sister. I am unsure of the sister's nickname.

I had to read this 5x before I even understood it. And I'm still not sure I do.

Alex maintained throughout this whole ordeal that he was NOT at the kennel. Prosecution presented a video taken on Paul's phone with Alex's voice in the background. Paul was taking the video to send to his friend Rogan-they were taking care of Rogan's dog and thought something was wrong with his tail. The video is mostly of the dog but you hear Maggie and Alex's voices in the background.

When Alex took the stand he ADMITTED that he was at the kennel. He said he continued to lie because he had pills on him and he didn't trust SLED. So, basically he lied until he got on the stand. The video was taken at like 8:44 or so. The murders occurred between 8:49 and 9:02. Alex maintains that he doesn't know what he was doing for those 14 minutes and that he didn't hear any commotion, guns, or the dogs alerting them to intruders.

He continued to lie. He said Sheriff TC Smalls permitted him to put law enforcement blue lights in his vehicle. The prosecution put the Sheriff on the stand and he said that he didn't permit that and that he didn't know that Paul was riding around with illegal blue lights.

The man will lie and throw anyone under the bus to get his way.

I think there is definitely something to the Murdaugh connection to the SS case. So much smoke there has to be fire and Mandy Matney has been pushing really hard on this case so I know she knows things she can't say (yet.)

I'm catching up on Mandy Matney's podcasts on youtube. It seems she is a big part of why finally the Murdaughs aren't able to keep covering up. I really believe Mandy knows connections between the Stephen Smith murder and the Murdaughs. I'm waiting for all the dots to be connected because of her work. I hope they exhume Gloria, the housekeeper. It's so suspicious that they took out an insurance policy a month before Gloria fell. I can't believe they kept all the money from Gloria's family, it's beyond disgusting.

Do we know for sure that that insurance policy was completely new? Ex my homeowners insurance turns over annually so at any given time I am at max 11 months from having “gotten an insurance policy” on my house.

To be clear I think the Murdaughs were/are guilty AF.

At the end of the series it states that he got commercial insurance on the property one month before she died.

Oh my god, can we not gloss over the tiny detail that Buster got kicked out of USC for plagiarism? I mean what a perfect disgusting totally foreseeable reason. It’s breathtaking to see such incredible lack of any integrity from several generations of the family.

Yes, of course. It's a hallmark of the teenage brain.

It absolutely is, but there’s something else to this, in how open these teenagers seem to have been to really outre ideas/self-presentations (Paul as “Timmy”) while being in a society that is quite closed to other things (Stephen Smith being gay, for example). The Netflix version makes this seem way more benign a trait of this group of people than the HBO version does.

Not speaking to the homophobia, but the all ages drinking together thing is part of southern culture.
