No dog in this fight but I’d argue sales are not a measure of popularity. The single best measure of popularity is by social media. Beyoncé has 50m more IG followers than TS. TS has about 10m TT followers but I’d say IG is the beat measure if popularity as it spans across more generations.

In summary, for popularity, TS pop fans are more likely to also know and follow Beyoncé. The same cannot be said for Beyoncé fans.

I’m not saying who is more talented or deserving, just my take on popularity. Yes, Kim Kardashian is more popular that both 😂

64th doesn’t mean 11 out of 64 we’re black artist. A few people have won multiple times, including some black artist.

I like Beyoncé and think Lwmonade should have won. Formation was a great song. This current album of hers is terrible and feels plagiarized.

I guess we'll never know who got 2nd or 3rd or 4th and so on.

An artist probably doesn't need that great of a percentage to win, just more than the second artist.

With ten nominees, there is a higher likelihood that certain genres are represented by multiple artists, increasing the likelihood of splitting the vote.

The same thing happens with the Oscars' best film category, which in former years only had five nominees.

IMO, maybe there shouldn't even be general awards that span all genres. It really is a situation of trying to compare apples and oranges. How can you hold up a jazz album, a pop album and a rap album and say which is the best album? They are three entirely different things. Voters just pick based on what type of music they like best, and pop generally wins because that has the biggest voter base.

Of course, they'll never do that artists want general awards and the grammys enjoy the attention paid to those awards.


No classical music or opera albums either.
