yeah but you can't fix one injustice with another injustice. as one of SCOTUS said, when is it enough? how do you know when to stop?

What’s the injustice? That Asian Americans get into a particular school at rates well above their representation in the general population but may lose a few spots to other minorities? I don’t see that as an injustice.

Supreme Court is full of conservative hacks, so I am really not looking to them to provide a good insight into undoing systemic social injustices.

So we should only allow % reflecting group's population? Good lord.

Never said that. Even with AA, Asian Americans are over represented and Blacks are underrepresented at most schools.

Maybe they are better qualified. I don't suppose you would accept that possibility.

I am going to leave it to colleges to decide who is qualified. Many seem to believe academics (which I assume is what you mean by qualified) are only one of the many things an applicant can contribute to create a robust student population at a school.

What if colleges decided the core qualification for admittance was being white? Would you still be fine with leaving it up to colleges to decide?

The best colleges in China and Japan seems to think being Asian is the main qualification.

Nothing in most Asian countries is open even to Asians of another nationality, let alone those of another race. Despite all of our faults, the US is one of the best countries in the world at having opportunities open to everyone. We've got a long way to go still--and affirmative action is a part of that progress, IMHO--but we're centuries ahead of countries in many corners of the world.

The key difference is that Asian country will not discriminate against their own citizens no mater whether they are white, black Hispanics etc. whereas in the US, Asian Americans are systematically discriminated against and made a scapegoat so that politicians can pander for votes.

This is not true. In Singapore there are racial quotas for school admissions which result in discrimination against minority group members who are citizens. This is one of the few Asian countries with multiple ethnicities in substantial numbers, so it was surprising to me to see how there is still a built in preference for Chinese over Malay or Tamil citizens.

Google red lining.

You think kids today whose parents were in segregated schools have the same education and opportunities?

American born native speakers can't even compete straight against relatively recent immigrants who have cultural and language barriers??

Clearly they are.

However still blaming slavery and want free seats?

Get better at sports and you can earn that “free seat”.

Blame AA because you weren’t a high performer in more than 1 thing.

You are extremely ignorant.

https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/tokyo-2020/medals
China was #2, Japan was #5, and Korea was #15 out of like 200+ countries in last Olympics for total medals

Looks like Asians are great in sports.

Use sports, use art, use music, use whatever but don't use racial discrimination.

I’m talking about Asian American. I already said it’s immigrants taking their spots not AA’s.

Like immigrants from Nigeria?
Nothing's wrong with immigrants.
They are invited to the country because they are helpful to the country. There are here legally.
Admission should be fair to everyone regardless of skin color.

Nigerian immigrants in the USA have one of the highest if not the highest level of educational attainment.

We'll see SCTUS decision on that

So that is what you are standing on?
Do you know how many clownish things this SCOTUS has ruled on?

Asians are clearly discriminated, and SCTUS will make the right decision and correct the wrong doings of colleges

You are totally wrong.
Japanese citizens have higher priority in Japan.
Korean citizens have higher priority in Korea.
Chinese citizens have higher priority in China.
US citizens have higher priority in USA.
Of course they should.

Asian countries like Japan, China, Korea have very objective fair measures with no room for subjective bullshit like likability score.
It's very fair to everyone regardless of your skin color.

Anonymous wrote:Intelligent.com, an online resource focused on higher education planning and online degree rankings, polled 1,250 Asian Americans on Nov. 9 and found that roughly half (49%) of them oppose race-based admissions in colleges and universities.

The detractors cited several reasons for their positions. A whopping 81% said they oppose the policy because it is racist; 32% said it increases racism against Asian Americans; 30% said it hurts their odds of getting into their chosen schools and 25% said it perpetuates stereotypes against the community.

In terms of age, older Asian Americans were more likely to oppose affirmative action, with 61% of those aged 54 and above saying they “somewhat” or “strongly oppose” the policy. Meanwhile, 45% of those aged 18 to 24 and aged 25 to 34 expressed opposition to the policy.

A quarter (26%) of respondents expressed support for affirmative action . Thirteen percent said they “strongly support” the policy, while 21% said they “somewhat support.”

The survey also looked into the impact of affirmative action on the respondents’ motivation to vote in the recent midterm elections, as well as their choice of candidates, with 58% of midterm voters who voted Republican reporting that they did so for the first time.

An earlier survey conducted by The Economist and British analytics firm YouGov showed that a majority of U.S. adults (54%) also oppose affirmative action.
