Circumcision is male genital mutilation. It is interesting that we in the US criticize other cultures for female genital mutilation and we do it ourselves to our boys.
The research has not played out to show a benefit to doing this at a population level. If a man engages in high risk sexual behaviors where the procedure might be beneficial, he could get the procedure himself at his own decision. I will support my sons in this regard if needed.

"Male circumcision can reduce a male’s chances of acquiring HIV by 50% to 60% during heterosexual contact with female partners with HIV, according to data from three clinical trials. Circumcised men compared with uncircumcised men have also been shown in clinical trials to be less likely to acquire new infections with syphilis (by 42%), genital ulcer disease (by 48%), genital herpes (by 28% to 45%), and high-risk strains of human papillomavirus associated with cancer (by 24% to 47% percent)."

Oh, and my sons are circumcised. No issues.
From the same paper
While the benefits of circumcision can be high for males without HIV who engage in behaviors that may increase their chances of getting HIV, the overall public health benefit for the entire U.S. population may be limited due to the lack of definitively proven benefits among HIV transmission categories at a national level, including male-to-male sexual contact and heterosexual contact.

I am not a troll. My son, born after this, is circumcised.
I don’t get it

They let a child watch the procedure? Weird.
This is a religious ceremony. You've never been to a Bris? I think that is weird.
Anonymous wrote:2 boys, neither circumcised. Both DH and I think it's unnecessary and are happy with the decisions. No issues for either. But I do get a pit in my stomach when I hear American rhetoric about equating uncut with unclean. Case in point the posters on here who have said "his gf was happy" that he was circumcised. Or the other who said he didn't want the girl to run away if he was uncircumcised. It's just so...low IQ. I mean, if we have to respect you for what many now agree is genital mutilation without consent then why can't you show a little respect to those who choose the opposite. Just bums me out. Anyway, we stand with the Europeans.
