Does Liz Brent, who funded a guy to follow Elrich around for months and harass him in a bee costume, actually think she’s going to be selected?
Citation please.

Montgomery County government is an absolute joke of an organization led by people that lack basic competence and professionalism at all levels.
And only 1 candidate is a registered replublican, with the rule in place that no more than 3 of the 5 members can be of the same political party.
In this case, the board must have the same partisan makeup as the outgoing board, so 3 Democrats, 1 Republican, and 1 Independent, unless they’re throwing all the rules out the window. It would be ill advised to shift the partisan makeup to have, for example 2 independents, because any Republican who applied but was not selected would almost certainly have standing to sue over the process. As of now, the only person who has an obvious claim to standing is Elrich, because he’s been cut out of a process in which he has a statutory role. Maybe he’s decided to play dead on this and let the council keep digging its own hole but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him weigh in after selections when it will be harder for the council to fix its missteps.
Elrich is certainly biding his time. No way should he allow “interim” appointments for an indefinite term or the Council to pull a Trumpian move and unilaterally decide what the CE’s authority is while ignoring legislative mandates. It’s a major concern when a branch of government doesn’t respect the rule of law.
Dreyfuss and Carrier should not even be eligible because they’re term limited. And even the candidates who meet the most basic criteria of not having major red flags, like Branson, are supposed to be the exact opposite of what the Planning Board needs, another politician without specific knowledge.
I honestly think it’s time for M-NCPPC to be reformed at the assembly. You cannot have a legislatively appointed person who is not part of the executive in charge of a police force. You cannot have a legislatively appointed person who is not part of the executive in charge of major roads and transportation policy. Parks are also poorly run. The institution has now run its course and has been an unmitigated failure for the last decade and a half.

The Parents Coalition gets a lot of stuff wrong and I'll believe that Dreyfuss isn't registered to vote here when I see evidence. But the other problems are well documented. Did anyone do any vetting of the finalists? This takes you down to seven viable candidates (and not even the right party mix) before you consider whether it's a good idea to appoint a lobbyist.

Oh man you do not want any republicans on the board.
