I remember White Flint in the 1980s had 4 department stores-Bloomingdale's, I Magnin, Lord&Taylor, JC Penney's and Raleigh's. We loved the glass elevator in the center of the mall. The first level had Via Venetto, a Venice-style row of specialty shops including a jewelry/watch store, tailor, shoe repair, stationery shop and small snack/convenience store at the very end. There was a pretty big food court (Eatery?) on the 2nd level and a small post office which was open even on Sundays. The top floor had a movie theater and a couple of small restaurants (Skolnik's Bagels and Cafe La Ruche) as well as an area called Georgetown Square. Then Borders Books replaced I Magnin. PF Chang's and Cheesecake Factory and Dave&Buster came in the 1990s.

This restaurant closed last week

We had a lot of fertility problems and waited years for our baby to arrive. And when that happened, I have such fond memories of going to Bloomingdales to pick out special baby clothes. They used to have really good sales, too, so it wasn't all overpriced. Even now, 2 decades later, it makes me smile to think of how excited and happy I was looking through those darling outfits.

Since we are in January, I am having flashbacks to the Camp Fairs that were held in White Flint at the end of January. I remember this one in particular - drove through a snowstorm to attend that camp fair.

Nope, name changed to North Bethesda because it was profitable for developers and homeowners in an area once described as Rockville to glom onto Bethesda's price levels and cachet.

I lived at Grosvenor Metro during the kickoff of efforts to officially rename our Rockville zip code North Bethesda (late 90s).

Same thing happened with North Potomac. My middle school house was either in Rockville or Gaithersburg zip code in the 1980s. Now it's in North Potomac.

It's all real estate flimflammery.
