The Good Samaritan (with a gun) engaged and killed the shooter in 14 seconds of him beginning his attack on innocent people.

GS fired 10 rounds in 3 seconds, with 8 hits, from a distance of 44 yards.

And there are a thousand more just like him. And we do absolutely zero vetting to bother figuring this kind of radicalization out. We don't do any kind of adequately meaningful background checks to see if someone buying a gun has a history of serious mental illness - that proven by Virginia Tech and many other shootings. We don't do any kind of adequately meaningful checks to see if someone buying a gun has a history of violence, domestic disturbance, school fights or other red flags, Highland Park proves this.

And, we also don't do nearly enough to stop the flow of illegal guns. Millions of guns have changed hands in this country without any traceability or accountability and we do absolutely nothing to meaningfully stop that flow, and we deny the police the tools to do anything about it.

There was a story awhile back where a would be hero was mistakenly shot and killed by police. This guy was a hero and I hope he can handle the publicity. I think back to the guy who rescued Jessica McClure and later committed suicide. This guy is a hero and deserves privacy, not to be used as a political pawn on either side. He’s probably traumatized as are the other survivors.

+1. Every mass shooting is another sacrifice to the God of the Second Amendment. To his devotees, the only way to stop mass shootings is to make sure every man, woman, and child is armed to the teeth at all times.

They are very concerned about what the government will do to them when they are unarmed, because of how *they* treat people who are unarmed. In one breadth, they vote for candidates who make it impossible to get a life saving abortion, while making it incredibly easy for a mentally ill 18 year old with known murder fantasies to amass an arsenal in an afternoon.
