Amen. This is a bipartisan issue, in our elected officials need to do something NOW.

Because Republicans hold enough seats in the Senate to stop it. I think you know that.

Last time Obama demanded that 'The children of Newtown deserve a vote.'
Harry Reid, leader of the Senate and a Democrat, refused to bring the legislation up for a vote.

They didn’t have the votes. How many Republicans were willing to support it?

Then you bring it up for a vote and highlight how the Republicans were voting no. Yet Harry Reid couldn't be bothered to do this basic act.
Why not?

They did vote on it.

1) how many school shooters come from a broken home?
2) how many were bullied or socially ostracized?
3) how many were already on the radar of authorities with prior police visits or reports?
4) how many had friends who saw signs of problems but never reported or made an effort to get them help?

It’s a very similar profile and is not a 1:1 for all gun owners. It’s the same as saying a man with DUI killed 2 people on the way home after midnight so we ban all cars. Yes you can, but does it make sense.

We all know in other counties where citizens don’t have protection, are easily controlled. Just look at what’s happening in china with mass lock downs. Even the purchase of a meet cleaver for cooking requires you to link it to a QR code associated with buyer for tracking. That is one version of the timeline I don’t want to be on. I have family back there and it’s a different world.

Can we all please at least lay blame on the terrible police force that let this happen first? I feel like they are getting a free pass for completely failing their community.

The police response was awful, and worthy of discussion, but a distraction from what needs to happen now. Ultimately, they didn’t go onto a school and shoot to kill 21 people. A teenager was able to walk in off the street and purchase an incredibly powerful weapon, no questions asked. We need better gun control, period.

I still didn’t want them in the house once our kids were born. That was 15 years ago. We were responsible gun owners and I can tell you for sure, we were not the problem. We would have complied with any law at any time. If they were outlawed, we would have turned them in. A buy back program would not have been an incentive since we don’t need the money.

I can also tell you that people who actually have guns to commit crimes would not be enticed by a voluntary buy back of purchase price plus inflation. I think stricter gun laws are needed but also stricter discipline in schools and more consequences for crimes all around. And of course, addressing mental health. We know banning things and making laws do not automatically stop murder.

The people who have guns to commit crimes are barely adults and live with their parents who very well could care.

Please don’t speak for all gun owners. I refuse to believe responsible gun owners would not agree that some reform s necessary. No automatic assault rifles. Background checks, training. We can agree on this.

'automatic assault rifles' have been banned for over 80 years.

They aren’t “banned”. Not even today.

They are so close as to not make a difference. Production and importation of new full-automatic NFA firearms has been illegal since the 1980s. There is a fixed quantity of the remaining ones, and they are both very expensive and very hard to get. Every transfer gets reported to the ATF, every owner is registered, and their use in crime is basically unheard-of. It's a non-issue.

Ok. But if you are going to get nit-picky on terminology at least get your own facts and terminology straight.

Ok… assault rifles? My point is, we need to make this harder for mass murderers. What’s yours?
