I do believe that OP is the resident DCUM covid nut, but in the off chance that it is not, I will state my kids' covid story. Except - whoops - I can't call it a covid story, because we never tested and I can't be sure what they had/have is covid. Both are in school today. One is sniffling, the other has a mild sore throat, but both feel basically fine. They are unmasked. Anything else you want to know?

Nope, I think we all understand from your post that you're an asshole.

I will add, a creepy dude who now lurks in covid threads like an eager puppy, begging to be kicked again.

Or as I call him, having no actual idea of his gender, location, or even if he's a parent at all, "Kensington Dad." Going from his posts, his defensiveness, his stubborn insistence that he's a clever troll, or a righteous crusader, or just an all around average Joe... That seemed to fit. I suspect he's divorced with partial or no custody because he also seems to hate women and has an axe to grind. I picked Kensington because it's whiter than SS and not as rich as Bethesda. He seems to have many chips on his shoulder.

Now, none of that has anything to do with covid. And I don't care if I'm right

Regarding COVID and our kids catching it: as I've said many many many many times before, this is not a zero sum game, where some people "win" by having covid or by not having it. It is, however, logical practice to avoid spreading diseases. Masking is a simple way to do this. Not masking is a simple way to spread an airborne illness.

Anyone, in this brave new year of 2022 who cannot comprehend why bragging about sending their infectious kids to school makes them look like a pathetic, attention-seeking sociopath, is only worthy of mockery, not genuine engagement.

Stop trying to treat this dude like he has anything to say. He does not.

Parts of Kensington are just as rich or richer than Bethesda. People just aren't as showy. Even in the less "wealthy" areas of Kensington, most families are doing equal to Bethesda families but just choose to spend their money differently.

You must really enjoy being a bully. I feel bad for your kids and its good they are back in school full time. Its too bad school is ending soon for the summer. That must be so hard on you.

What?

I think defending Kensington because you feel insecure that I don't think you're wealthy is not the own you thought it would be. You just makes "East Bethesda" (Kensington) sound more like actual Bethesda.

Again, not the win you'd thought it might be.

I'm psyched for summer. We will spend it outside together at the swim club that is not close to any Bethesda.

You will no doubt spend it here, worrying about your lawn and your neighbors who rent.

Have you ever investigated Dihydrogen Monoxide? Scary stuff: https://www.dhmo.org/truth/Dihydrogen-Monoxide.html

Dihydrogen monoxide:

is also known as hydric acid, and is the major component of acid rain.
contributes to the Greenhouse Effect.
may cause severe burns.
contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.
may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

You forgot that if you accidentally ingest too much it causes hyponatremia, which can be fatal.
Dihydrogen monoxide is no joke.

And breathing it can also be fatal.

Absolutely. More kids die of dihydrogen monoxide exposure each year than have died of Covid annually.

Well, then take that up with MCPS, but this discussion is about covid and its not just about dying. A child getting sick can get the entire family sick, spread it to others and have serious consequences on parents. Your child getting sick may not be a big deal to you but it can mean two weeks of unpaid leave for another family and then they cannot pay their rent or buy food. But, wait, as long as you get to take your Disney vacation, all is good in the world.

I hope you do not purport to be a member of any religious faith. Because you are being immoral by the tenants of pretty much every religion, which call upon us to care for one another. Your selfishness is really, really horrible.

Wouldn't it be nice if all adherents of pretty much every religion actually did attempt to care for one another?

You need help. You really do. It’s not good to live like this.

You need help given we are in a surge and you are still a Covid denier.

DP, whose son just had COVID - you really do have problems, PP. The data OVERWHELMINGLY show that COVID is mild for the vast majority of children. In kids who are vaccinated, even more so. You can find the random clickbait headlines all you want, but over two years in, we know this much is true.

OP, my son was nauseated for a few hours, and then with some gatorade and crackers, he was fine. Bounced off the walls for his entire isolation period. He's 8 and fully vaccinated.

Good for your DS. Now, just get a complete wellness check done along with a heart checkup. Too many young and old are dropping like ripe fruits all over the world.

Young children are not routinely dropping from COVID all over the world. What is wrong with you?

A lot of kids have died all over the world from covid. What is wrong with you?

13,400 https://data.unicef.org/topic/child-survival/covid-19/

Bigger threats than COVID to kids:

Suicide
Substance use
Parental abuse/neglect
Accidents
Diarrhea
Famine

Shall I go on?

You can focus endlessly, obsessively on COVID as long as you want to. That doesn’t make you correct or even a caring person.

Really, you are the ultimate covid denier.

Here's an idea. Instead of wasting your time denying covid and intentionally harming people, get your kids therapy and help fi they are suicidal, use substances or parental abuse/neglect. And, supervise them better to prevent accidents. And, go to Amazon.com for some pepto. And, for all of humanity, feed your kids. Plenty of free resources.

Amen.

I suspect this is just a person who doesn't want to admit what he's done to his kids.

That describes posters who have kept their kids under house arrest for over two years. Stole two years of childhood and counting...

No one is stealing anyone's childhood. Grow up already. You just don't feel like parenting your kids and want them out of the house and away from you as much as possible as beyond providing a roof, paying for things and food, you simply don't care.

We have one family in our neighborhood with twin girls.

Virtual academy. Pulled them out of girl scouts. No soccer or sports.

They play in the backyard together. That's it.

Meanwhile, the rest of the neighborhood kids are up and down the block on bikes and scooters and playing tag.

Those parents absolutely have stolen their girl's childhoods. And we've asked; there is no medical reason for their caution.

At this point, it feels like they just doubling down because to do otherwise would be to admit that the past 2 years have been for nothing

You sound pretty terrible, especially to demand to know why or if someone has health issues. Its none of your business. Maybe they don't like you. Good for them.

DP
Who said anyone demanded anything? A simple question is not a demand.

Have has anyone ever told you it's none of your business? Why would you even be so entitled to someone else's privacy to ASK a question like that? No one needs to be proven right about anything. People live different lives. Sorry that other people might life differently than you do. You have no idea or right to judge it. Get that through your head. No one stole anyones childhood just because *you* think thats how other people should raise their families and live their lives. Leave people alone.

You’re overly defensive. Stealing your kids’ childhoods too?

So, now if someone doesn't live how a bully like you wants them to live, they are steeling the kids childhoods...

Lol. Where did I say I demanded it?

In fact the conversation went like this:

"Hey, we're having a small outdoor birthday party for DD and would love to have your girls there."

"Oh, thanks for including us. They definitely miss Larla. But we are trying to stay very cautious so unfortunately we must decline"

"No problem. I totally understand. We have to take some extra precautions because my mom has asthma, so we are always extra cautious before we see"

"Yeah. Fortunately, we don't have any health issues. We just want to be careful."

So, sure, its possible they just didn't want to share their medical history with us. But its more likely they just fell victim to the fear-monger. I mean, come on, in what world do you think someone would "demand" to know a person's medical history. Youre nuts

Maybe they don't want to discuss it with you. You aren't taking extra precautions and they know it. They don't want to be around you.

Sooooooo.... maybe try to avoid getting COVID.

Why are people on this board so offended by anecdotes about people overreacting? Particularly since there's a segment on this board that's all about championing overreacting and living that lifestyle.

The person posting it was the one overreacting. Its their lives. Why do you care how they live it? Its not like you are friends with them. Not only are you not friends but you are a huge bully.
