This is really cute! But my question: does the smocked top on dresses like this feel too clingy? I picked up a somewhat similar dress in Hawaii a few years ago and while I like the way it looks, the top made me feel really scrunched and sweaty even though I'm really small-busted.

Short, 5'2", short-waisted and busty. Many are sleeveless (not with my 54 year old arms), require no BRA (not with my nursed 3-kids droopy DDDs), and have a little belly.
Any other suggestions for me??

I'm 42. My perfect summer dress is:
1. A light, 100% woven cotton, and NOT a knit jersey that get too hot, but mustn't be too see-through. If gauzy, it has to have a cotton lining at certain areas. Linings are often not cotton, so that reduced options.
2. It has cap sleeves or similar to protect my shoulders from the sun.
3. It has a waist because that's my best feature.
4. It goes down below the knee because I don't like my knees but not too long because it gets in the way when I walk the dogs.
5. It's a nice color or pattern.
Which is why I don't have a lot of summer dresses!
Same. I don’t know why this is almost impossible to find.

This is Jersey, which is specifically NOT what op wants.
Read the description before jumping down someone’s throat. It’s 100% cotton. I have this dress in two prints and I can also attest… it is cotton.
It’s COTTON JERSEY. Jersey is typically made from cotton but the type of weave is typically thicker and heavier than voile or poplin or lawn. I never said it wasn’t cotton - I said it is jersey.

Based on this forum, I believe some people wear shorts under dresses to address this.

Melanin 😊
And my arms are probably what some consider unacceptable for sleeveless but IDGAF. Ordering myself some Mother’s Day gifts now. 😊

Sunscreen. I’m white and wear sleeveless dresses and tanks all summer without issue.
I do put on sunscreen pretty regularly if out for more than 20 min
+1 sunscreen and shade. Same way you don’t get burned in short sleeves.
