Very few schools "tie" students to the major in their application? Even specialty schools for engineering and business have flexibility and often allow you to transfer out to the arts & sciences school if unhappy.

I don't think most of them are actually tied to a major. That's just what they applied as. I know at many schools you can't even officially declare a major until end of sophomore year.
