I know plenty of overeducated people (from great schools) who have mediocre careers, messy personal lives and also people who have little or no college and are very successful. Getting into a school means little in the overall picture.
Basically the status of their undergrad college is all that they have to cleave onto when in these situations. I've seen this mainly with women, but perhaps there are men too and I just don't know them. I have a great family, had an interesting career and a rewarding second act, but my SIL will always view me less than because I didn't attend a comparable college as her and DH. Sometimes I want to ask, "if it's good enough for your brother, then why isn't it for you?"
