We have two in AAP and they need a challenging curriculum with their peers, not one dumbed down for kids whose parents complained they weren't in AAP. I can tell you that we are not the only ones making the switch.

Don't be surprised if those level III kids end up being as good as the level IV kids at class work.

Of course. My concern is the Level II kids that will be placed with Level IV.

That was not me, but yes, I am concerned about the grouping/mixing and not being able to meet my children at their very advanced levels. It's hard enough when there are children principal placed into the classroom that are having a hard time keeping up but whose parents won't send them back to GenEd because of the "prestige" of being in AAP. It's not about prestige, its about academics and challenge.

I hear you. DC's class went from 17 last year to 25 this year (with two of the original 17 moving), and some of the "newer" AAP students are struggling to keep up. I know the Principal or perhaps one of the AAP teachers mentioned that the 3rd grade class only had 14 kids in it. I think they're getting pressure to equalize the class sizes.

Right. Isn’t this a move to remedy this concern? There needs to be equal sized classes and if there aren’t enough level IV students to make an entire class, they need to get divided into the two classrooms. Those kids that were placed in there will get redistributed. Though it is interesting that your perspective on how they’re doing directly conflicts with the evidence presented.

DC will be entering final year at the ES, so moving to Lemon Road would be a bit of an upheaval. Biggest concern is breaking up their class, which I realize will eventually happen by 7th grade but was hoping for one more year. Also concern that there will be the tried-and-true AAP teacher they were all looking forward to getting vs. the possibility of being placed with another teacher who is new to AAP, and HOW the split will be made. My child is a self-starter and will likely do well academically regardless, but there may be some lag with the other kids playing catch-up.

Moving to Lemon Road from where? That is, why do you think this will be less of an issue at Lemon Road than wherever you are now? Are they not making the same changes that OP described?

OP's post is about changes at Shrevewood which has an LLIV program. Parents have the choice to send their kids to Lemon Road, which is the local AAP Center. No changes are being made at any of the Centers.

These changes already exist at other schools and there is no reason to believe they won't be successful at Shrevewood.

Successful is a different question.

Out of curiosity, why?

And parents have the right to make whatever choice they think is best for their children.

Which is what? To leave to the Center school? That choice has always existed. But I had to point out that what Shrevewood is proposing is happening at other schools successfully and I believe will help foster a better community for the students of Shrevewood. I don't see the drawbacks.

We know of another family making the switch and one family who is very unhappy about the change but reluctant to make the switch because they have an older kid and switching schools comes with its own set of issues.
