Seriously, there really isn’t a Maryland and a Virginia. There’s NOVA, and there’s Va Beach, and Richmond and then the rest of “country” VA. Then there’s Metro DC MD, there’s Baltimore, and there’s Annapolis, and there’s the rest of “country” MD. Country MD and Country VA are very similar as are metro DC MD and NOVA, and the DelMarVa peninsula is pretty much all the same. I suppose in NOVA they don’t have the crime like PG county or in Richmond they don’t have the crime like Baltimore … but then again Baltimore doesn’t have Klan rallies. So pick your regional area poison and live with it is the moral of this thread.


I've seen reckless drivers with MD tags and reckless drivers with VA tags on the Beltway. However, it does appear that the number of reckless drivers is higher along the PG stretch of the Beltway.


The worst drivers in the area are the a-holes VA drivers hanging out in the left lane and blocking traffic. Either totally clueless or acting like some kind of hall monitor.

Yes ^^ the electoral college system for electing POTUS is not always friendly to densely populated urban areas.

In Virginia, state representatives and state senators are elected via plurality vote in single-winner contests. The governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general are elected in single-winner contests via plurality vote.

Virginia is a large state with 95 counties + 38 independent cities. Maryland has 23 counties + Baltimore city

And this is the real reason why MD opposes a new bridge over the Potomac. The agricultural reserve is just a convenient excuse.

So? Any restaurant worth its salt should be able to easily figure out how to have a healthy kids option available.


But why force it? Let the market decide. They even require it of places like the lunch counter in the basement of office buildings that cater solely to office workers.

That's anti-business. Few places in the US have such requirements because this is a typical case of government overreach. All this anti-business regulation has its effect -- it drives business outside of the county.

Again, I ask, why do VA people consistently compare *ONE* county in MD with the entire state of VA. That screams *insecure* to me. And I'm originally from out west.


They're not. They're mostly comparing Arlington/FFX/Alexandria and sometimes Loudoun/Prince William.

I mean do you want to include PG county in with Moco? I'm not sure it's a favorable comparison and it would make Maryland look even worse.

So, it's the whole NoVa Vs one county in MD.

Most people compare MoCo and Fairfax. Both have about the same population and geographic size. And back in the year 2000, they were economically equivalent. Since then their paths diverged dramatically.
