I don't think snarky. I would assume she's also busy and probably has had some sh-t going on and forgot to email/text earlier to follow up on assignments. The teacher may have asked her to use the note in the backpack communication method -- our preschool did that, and I thought it was a bad method, but I adhered to the school's preferences. I would guess she probably had a stack of undecorated paper plates/napkins there and just wanted to check you weren't bringing fancy decorated ones before she opened those up and distributed them. She said it was fine, so it's fine. Don't read snark into it. Yes, she could have added a "Totally NBD. Feel better soon!" but maybe she was typing as she was hangng up streamers or blowing up balloons or something. You could have also texted "Thanks for planning the party!" but I guess you didn't do that either. As women, we put way too much pressure on ourselves and others to always be extra thankful, gracious and sunny. Sometimes it's okay just to be abrupt and to the point. (And if English isn't her first language, she might not get the social norm.)

You are socially clueless if you can’t see that.

I'm a room mom. I always check two days before party and just sign up for whatever slots are left (or reach out and ask people I know to do it if there are many). I would never, ever send that text at that time. Just let it go. She sounds like not a very nice person to be friends with, and it was all on her that she didn't follow up before.

Also, this is Prek3, so presumably you may never see her after this year or the next. Hurray!
