Do you know what colleges require? They want to see foreign language. It was my understanding that you don’t need foreign language with a standard diploma. That will ruin your chances for college at many places.

OK. Do they care about sequential electives other than foreign languages? Does studio art II really look better than an AP art history or AP Stat or AP Environmental Science or AP Spanish lit in addition AP Spanish language? All of those are options that could be taken in the same elective slot. All are more rigorous classes and all offer a GPA bump

You don't get an advanced diploma until graduation. Colleges don't know of care about the designation- they look at the course work taken. You can easily construct and advanced diploma sequence that would get laughed at by any half decent college and a non-advanced sequence that shows more than enough rigor for any school.

The advanced has the foreign language requirement. All the good schools want to see that.

The Engineering course progression is what my DC is doing for this requirement. It actually has weighted classes like HN or AP in 11 and 12th grade. It can be overlooked since they are listed in the CTE section of the course catalog and those on the college track don't always consider those courses.

My kids' sequential electives were in 9th grade (Info Systems) and 12th grade (Advanced Info Systems). No issues.
