Huh. I've never been allowed to wear makeup when I've had surgery.

Reston Hospital offers postpartum massages ‐ not sure of the cost. Maybe they find this helps speed up healing and reduce postpartum depression. It's not a crime if a mom requests this at that hospital because the hospital chose to offer it. I'm sure it's not the nurses that are required to do the massage but a masseuse that the hospital entered into an agreement with.

Meals for new mothers are delivered by the cafeteria staff, not nurses, regardless of if the meal is standard hospital food or a memorable post delivery meal. It's not a burden on nurses or doctors, it's a service the hospital provides to ensure the new mother gets adequate nutrition during their stay so they can recover.

Some hospitals contract with HALO sleep sack providers to encourage new mothers to practice "back is best" habits and lay a baby on their back to sleep as it helps improve neonatal health outcomes - just in the way that pampers and huggies contract with hospitals to provide newborn diapers for newborn patients so mothers don't have to travel to the hospital with packed diapers for their baby.

There are some hospitals in the area that used to have shared post delivery rooms which is not the most comfortable setting to recover from birth - so to ask for a private room is simply just checking the current pulse of what hospitals are choosing to offer now.

It's not a crime for a new mother to look for information with such to compare hospitals in regards to comfortable settings to give birth - just like people compare neighborhoods before choosing where to buy a home or compare daycare providers before enrolling their child or compare employers before deciding to apply for a new job or compare schools before applying to college. People even compare malls before they go shopping.
