Oh my god, I have one friend who, for a while, was selling something new every year. That jewelry line that was in 10+ years ago, Lularoe, Jamberry, Rodan & Fields, everything!! This is an educated woman - she's gone to name brand schools since high school, but chose to be a SAHM and got bored, I guess.

To the MLM ladies - yes, of course people come to your parties because they feel obligated to come to your parties since they are your friends/relatives. And yes, they feel obligated to buy things because they don't want to offend. And yes, maybe one or two of those people genuinely like the products and are happy to own tons of that stuff, but for the most part, people feel obligated to buy from you because you are essentially forcing them to. You are delusional if you think the vast majority people come to your parties because they want to.

*For example, I've actually liked a few of the Beautycounter things I bought, but I would not go out of my way to buy them if I didn't have a friend who sells them. But I don't want the vibrator, leggings, tupperware, nail polish, etc that most of you are selling.

Then show us some numbers. I've seen many articles with hard numbers. It indicates that most people don't make any money on these things. In fact many people lose money.

+1. I usually go to parties and convince everyone not to buy the product. I tried to help a woman out by just giving her money, but she was too deep in the hole with the amount of product she bought.

MLM makes money by recruiting new consultants. Most consultants loose money.
I feel bad for the people who end up in these schemes.
I have attended a few of these parties but have never purchased from anything. If invited I can come just to make it look like there are people at the place. Unfortunately I have occasionally criticized the product. I didn't mean to but couldn't help myself

+1. My SIL who got into it was a SAHM going through a rough patch in her marriage. MLMs are predatory and by supporting them, you are not supporting your “sisters”, you are supporting a rich CEO somewhere and their shady practices.
