Kids don't "need" in-person school. It is a "nice to have" not a "must have." Do parents "need" childcare? Yes. That's the reason why schools may stay open even after kids and teachers start to die.
There is no vaccine yet that is effective against Omicron.
Perhaps you’re trolling or just burned out. I’m a little toasty this year and am often grappling with how to work with students post remote learning (and my kids are a relatively privileged group but are still behind), but I can’t imagine any teacher who hasn’t given up completely making such a statement.
Different teacher here-
In-person instruction is a nice to have, not a need. The only needs out there are: food, water, and air….and I’ll through in shelter and clothing.

I teach in a primary grades building. We've had 4 cases (out of about 150 kids) since Thanksgiving, which is a lot for us. I don't think we're going to shut down if/when things get a lot worse, but I do think that all clubs and sports in schools are going to get cancelled. I also think there's no way that schools are going to require vaccinations for everyone, kids included,in buildings next fall.

Good parents keep their kids safe so that they never need Tylenol. If your kid is getting fevers, you deserve to have them taken away.

Omicron is spreading much faster and the kids are faring worse in South Africa than under Delta. Plus more kids in America were hospitalized under Delta than before. We don't want more kids in the hospital with a more transmissible variant. I wouldn't downplay this one.

How many of those kids are vaccinated? How many have vaccinated family members? We can't make decisions about without that information. As we saw with Delta, the risk to children in highly vaccinated communities was not significantly greater.
Presumably none of the 0-4 kids, which is why the incidence has gone up. If you read further in the thread, most hospitalizations were also just for IV hydration, which is common for toddlers for all illnesses. Regarding 5+, it looks like only 2% were vaccinated, way more unvaccinated, and for the rest of them, vaccination status was unknown. The data here is not great.

You are really off base, and I think anyone who thinks virtual or in person makes them a better or worse parent is very insecure. I'm raising this because I don't want kids to get sick and there seems to be real threat out there that could make them sick. People need to be aware and do what they can to limit risks. Now is a good time to make sure you have KN95s for your kids and that their classrooms have good ventilation - even a Corsi air box does a lot of good to clear the air of virus.
Let's not rehash political school drama right now. This is serious.
