Anonymous wrote:Burning books is certainly a bad choice of words. We don't want to burn any books in the USA, but limiting what books are available to kids in schools is not unreasonable. Books should be age appropriate, and kids should not be forced or indoctrinated into politically charged ideologies.
However, I would also argue that Big Tech censorship is the modern day equivalent of book burning. It's convenient to claim you are only censoring "misinformation" and "hate speech" - But who gets to determine this? Sometimes Democrats will call a political opinion "hate speech" simply because it is a position held by most white conservatives. Sometimes they will call facts "misinformation" for bizarre reasons. For example, someone posting a personal bad reaction to a vaccine will get hit with a "misinformation" label stating that vaccines are extremely safe. The fact that vaccines are usually safe does not make someone's personal experience "misinformation". The truth is the truth. Of course the Wuhan lab leak theory was called "hate speech" until investigations revealed that it might possibly be true.
I could go on and on, but the point is censorship is bad and prevents us from openly sharing ideas and arriving at the truth.

Start having your children check out library books from there schools now! (Ones you do NOT want in our schools)At the school board meeting we will have a fire pit in the parking lot. And will burn every last one of them you bring. Yes, at the end of the year, we will have to pay for them. But this year no one will be able to check them out. Feel free to bring marshmallows and a stick.

Can we ban or burn it?
Why are people not upset about conservatives wanting to ban and burn the Bible?

Yes, that’s definitely what the last election showed. Parents really love handing over the reigns of their children’s education to school boards.
They are going to like turning over the reins to people like you even less. I fully support your right to decide what your own children read. But when you also appoint yourself the arbiter of what everyone else's children can read, you are going too far. If you don't want your child to read the book, don't let them check it out of the library. But supporting book burning because of your own preferences is unacceptable.

Who care they suggested burning the books - red herring - the real issue is why was this garbage in a public school to begin with? Should we be giving Rabelais to the K-5 set next? Perhaps a little a Marquis de Sade? On the plus side at least the writing will surely be better.
I don't know who you are but please stop suggesting that you get to decide what constitutes "garbage" among the books my kids can choose from in their school library. You are not raising my kids and should have no influence on them. If you don't want your kids reading certain books then send the list of books you forbid them to check out to your school so the librarian knows to tell your kids, "sorry, your dad won't allow you to read this."
There are always choices being made on which books are in a school library or any library for that matter. Buy the garbage for your kids at home. We don’t need more 50 shades of grey, we need more Shakespeare.
Plenty of people throughout history have said Shakespeare was garbage. And full of sex and violence.
But good luck getting kids to voluntarily check out Shakespeare to read on their own.
You're right. Let them check out snuff films and pornography magazines. People do read them for the articles after all.
You are being ridiculous. Cite the titles and the school that has snuff films in their library. You can’t present a good faith argument. I bet you are not a college graduate because you never learned to present facts, just hyperbole.
