That's also why very liberal areas tend to have higher tax rates, higher minimum wage, more social welfare, do more things for the poor.
It's a collective mindset vs individual mindset.

This also isn’t about the politics or the government. It is one factor, but other than the things County Executive Elrich (who I generally like) is saying, but random people I see and people I know.
I still see a ton of people wearing masks outdoors, even alone. Im involved with some organizations that still aren’t comfortable having in-person meetings. Not because they think Zoom is just more convenient…. they have literally said they’re afraid because of Covid. I have friends who put masks on outdoors when there are, in their opinion, too many people around, who wear N95s to go over friends houses, and even people who won’t go to parties or moderately sized public events. The Thanksgiving parade is finally confirmed to happen, and they are requiring masks. A handful of other outdoor events were still canceled. People seem to be really fixated on breakthrough cases and variants.
These aren’t even older, high risk people. These are friends of mine in their 30s with no significant health issues and are fully vaccinated.
When I leave the area - elsewhere in the US or even locally, in PG or even DC - it is still not so extreme, especially with the Zooming and masking. What is it specifically about MoCo that makes so many people OBSESSED with continuing Covid restrictions?
DC lost a grandparent. Multiple neighbors of mine got sick and died. Some of my students lost parents. Covid isn’t just the news for me.
Nope
How can you pretend this didn't happen? I read the introductions in my children's classes and multiple kids said they lost a parent or grandparent or relative to covid. And, even now Covid deaths are still climbing.

I think you mean outside? I was at a Chevy Chase playground this afternoon with 4 year old DD and we were almost the only ones not masked. I was rather surprised since at our local playground in a different Bethesda neighborhood, almost no one wears masks outside. And just a mile away everyone was wearing KN95s, which seemed like overkill. And several of the conversations I overheard between other parents (moms) were all about covid and transmission and boosters. They seemed super-anxious. It was like being transported to a year ago.

I flat-out don't believe you.
Um, okay. It happened. Enjoy your disbelief.
Oh, and if you want proof, head to Leland Park around 3 pm on a weekday and see for yourself.
PP, it’s quite likely that most people are not nearly as motivated as you are to look for “proof” of the mask- wearing habits of complete strangers.
You’re concerned that these strangers are “super-anxious “. The level of your concern seems less than healthy — at best. Perhaps focusing on your own issues might allay your concerns which seem super-obsessive.

We're not yokels who believe the science info FOX is selling.
Right, but since we know the science, we should also have the integrity not to insist in masks outdoors in uncrowded settings, since the science doesn't support that. Interestingly, it's the highly educated, *non* scientists who are the ones I see continuing to mask outdoors. Us scientists know better.
And who is currently mandating wearing masks in uncrowded outside areas in MoCo? No one that I know of.
I might wear one, but I also have allergies and have found out the masks help me. Or others may be wearing them because of the cold. And some people may just be paranoid. And other peoole.who are scientists know this is still a new virus. Who knows?
Masks are not mandated outdoors, and other people wearing them outdoors is not hurting you in the slightest. Let them do what they want to do.
Actually it does bother me. I want to go to events and see friends and meet people and smile at them. I want to wear lipstick. I like looking pretty. Sue me. I’m a young social person and I’m DONE with Zoom. Masks are so depressing. Life sucks enough as it is, why suck the joy out of the remaining things that don’t suck? I don’t go to festivals and parties to mask up and be anonymous. I go out to meet people and smile and laugh.
If it bothers you to wear a mask outdoors, there is absolutely nothing that prevents you from enjoying your lipstick and smiling without a mask.
If it bothers you that I feel differently, then understand that my freedom to make decisions for myself is my priority — just like yours seems to be for you. If the behavior of strangers is “depressing” you and “sucking out joy”, I sincerely hope that you have some way to address those concerns that doesn’t involve expecting other people to alter their behavior on your behalf — when that behavior has absolutely nothing to do with you.
