Sounds like you delivered a healthy baby with no lasting negative affects from wearing a mask. Also it’s not just holy Cross.
oh ffs. it is all about the woman physically pushing out the baby. she was vaxxed and had a negative test. forcing her to wear a mask was absolutely irrational.
Guess what it’s probably to protect the unvaccinated nurses.
Then they can get vaccinated. If you work and healthcare and won’t get a vaccine then find a new line of work. Pregnant women should not have to sacrifice their comfort during the delivery for the sake of some stupid antivaxxer. Hell, I don’t feel the need to lift a finger to do anything for antivaxxers. I scroll past news articles of their deaths and DGAF anymore.
Funny, I feel the same way about people who refuse to mask given that people who are vaxxed can spread it, and there was an unvaccinated person (your child who are supposed to GAF about but apparently don't) in the room.
Someone who doesn't understand that giving birth is not all about the woman, it's also about the child's safety, should really not be parenting.
sooo … you think parents should mask at home? that’s weird.
No, I think that parents should wear masks in indoor spaces with other people so they don't bring covid home to their unvaxxed children.
If OP was giving birth outdoors, or placing the child for adoption, then I apologize.

I hope more people start doing this.
No, but if I were your medical professional, I would exit the room and cover myself in more complete PPE, the kind we use for confirm positive patients. I would take time away from your care to protect myself and my other patients. I would not stay in an enclosed space with an unmasked person. And that would impact your care.
Similarly if you were brandishing a knife or trying to attack me, I would stop care and make the scene safe for myself. Same as if you lit candles or tried to smoke a cigarette in your room. I would require you comply with hospital policy that protects you and everyone else.
You like drama, eh?

It was because the COVID test they gave me in triage took forever to come back (and no vaccines back then). I am shocked that they made you wear it after a negative test - I was allowed to take it off after my results came back. But it was all over by then.
I was also unable to get an epidural because the anesthesiologist wouldn't come in until I had tested negative. The good news is, when you are giving birth with no pain relief you kind of forget about the mask.
You couldn’t get an epidural? I am so sorry.
Omg we are so scared of COVID we have accepted denying a pregnant woman pain relief? This is crazy. I’m delivering at VHC in a few months (I’m fully vaxxed) and I will raise bloody hell if I can’t get an epidural.
RN here. Your pain is not more important than the risk to the doctor's life. Sorry. You're not going to die from labor pain. It will suck, but you're not dying. If you were positive, the doctor could die.

Great! I would have no problem with you wearing whatever PPE you need to feel safe. And I have worked in hospitals before — it takes at most a few minutes to put on the extra protection. In the course of hours long labor it would be an insignificant amount of time, so stop with the drama.
I’m also shocked that there are medical providers saying that their comfort is more important than the laboring woman in their care. It’s actually kind of sick that a lazy nurse on a power trip wants to force a woman in labor to wear a mask just so the nurse doesn’t have to wear more PPE.
And any nurse trying to use the threat of giving inferior care is disgusting.

OP, you'll be fine. It's just a mask.
Remember - pandemic. community. > me me me me
Ah yes the old other women have done it, you can to. Unfortunately in your equation the risk is super low with vaccination and a negative test.
Remember women have been giving birth in cornfields for years with no help. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should have to.
That analogy makes zero sense. The masks are to make people safer, not to harm. At this point, if you cannot do back flips in a mask I'm not sure what's wrong with you. I had major surgery this year. I had to wear a mask the entire time. Even had to wear it while in my hospital bed recovering over the next few days. It was painful and not a fun time. But masks were worn by all. I'm not feeling bad for OP here. Sorry not sorry.

That seems like a lie told because there was no anesthesiologist available. Doctors are working with known COVID + patients and wear appropriate gear. Not knowing this woman’s status wouldn’t have been reason to refuse care to a patient.
PP here. That is possible. I did wonder what would have happened if I had been covid-positive - no epidural at all?
It is what they told me, though.
