I hope, I am not intruding on this post as a business that "sort-of" competes with YayLunch. We have been reached by a couple of schools and meal providers who have been affected by YayLunch's termination of services.

Six weeks ago the owner was talking about expanding! What on earth happened at Yay Lunch?

Yes/ we are a Langley family and we received word from Yay that they will continue to provide our lunch service. They’ve asked us for feedback.

Our school email said they were cancelling 60ish schools and focusing on 5-6. Langley is larger so maybe it’s one of the remainder.

We hated Yay so I’m happy and hoping our small school moves back to ordering directly from various restaurants.

Really? This seems like an over reaction. Yay lunch is a luxury. No big deal that it’s gone.

Yay was new as of this year; we're daily lunch packers, and we kept expecting the kids to request a bought lunch from Yay but they never did.
School is going back to a twice-a-week Chick-fil-a and a local pizza place, so I am expecting "but everyone else gets a chicken sandwich/pizza/fries" to show up in a complainy voice.

This development undoubtedly leaves a gap in the daily routine and well-being of our students, a matter that requires immediate and thoughtful attention.

Recognizing the urgency of this situation, I am reaching out to propose a proactive solution. I believe we have the people and partners to make this work, with very little disruption to the students or the school.

My role involves collaborating closely with local restaurants, including previous partners of Yay Lunch such as The Point and Basic Burger, two restaurants that can serve almost our entire current lunch menus. Together they specialize in offering diverse and appealing meal options, including Tex-Mex, pasta, classic dishes, and burgers, all tailored to suit the varied tastes of our students. Together we have put together an offering that we believe gets us through the Holidays or even into the early Spring.

Our collective aim is to ensure that the transition in lunch service providers is seamless and without disruption to the students. We are committed to maintaining the same pricing structure as before, to avoid any additional burden on the school's budget. This approach will enable a smooth transition, ensuring that our students continue to receive hot, fresh, and delicious meals every school day.

I would be honored to discuss this proposal in further detail with you at your earliest convenience. My team and I are fully prepared to step in and provide a reliable, high-quality lunch service that meets the needs of your students and aligns with the school's standards.

Our school had already added two additional vendors before this, and announced a third along with the notice of ending Yay’s service. Pie-Tanza, Mighty Meals, and Healthy Fresh Meals. My kid prefers to pack lunch so I haven’t looked into any of them.

Their official line on refunds: ”Although they were issued as nonrefundable, as long as your school has cleared any outstanding balance, we will be refunding you for any remaining credits on your account following your last day of service.”

I would certainly hope so, especially because I think these cancellations are actually coming from Yay’s side. I suspect they are retrenching and have told schools that don’t met certain minimum order thresholds that they cannot supply them anymore. Contact Yay for help, though, the school won’t be able to do anything, is my guess.
