The downside is that your family's life becomes something to exploit for content, and everything becomes an opportunity for exhibitionism. Social media does this to people in general. How much more so for someone whose brand and identity comes from it?

If you like such things, there's an interesting Finnish horror movie on Hulu called Hatching that is about a girl whose mother is a family influencer and how it negatively impacts her.

I became aware of Jen during our international adoptions - probably back in 2011 before Instagram really got big. She was a book author and speaker and although I was drawn to her because of her similarity in family composition, I grew to like her as a speaker of faith because she was relatable. All of the Christian bookstore books before then seemed to be written by pastor's wives that I had zero things in common with, so Jen filled that square in a modern, upbeat, funny, non-preachy kind of way.

Other than espousing some more liberal viewpoints than she seemed to initially have - probably around 2015 or so - she seemed pretty constant until she and Brandon split. I don't know who this person is and it's very sad to see. I wish she'd find a good guy in Austin or Buda or San Marcos that treats her well. I also wish she'd swing back more toward the Christian faith and find a church she's more comfortable with, whatever that would look like for her. I miss the Jen that used to be, and yes, I get that people evolve and shift. I have, too.

She's made references to still being shattered by what happened with her divorce and that's so sad. It's sadder still what has happened to her. She's a shallow shell in a pretend relationship with someone who is clearly not that into her - except for that weird 'eat your meat' comment - and she's grasping at cheap-o partnerships just to pay the bills (I'm assuming."

I miss five years ago Jen.

I am her age. I have two friends who are a little bit younger than me - late 30's/early 40's - who repost her stuff from Facebook on raising littles. One even posted pictures of her pizza on TV trays the first weekend after school started with the caption "Taking Jen Hatmaker's advice." She still has an incredible amount of influence and I think she could turn things around if she could figure out who she wants to be. She just seems so lost right now and while it's incredibly fun to snark on her, I wish she'd squeak back in the other direction a little bit.

What’s Jen’s business plan moving forward? What’s her “teams” saying?

She’s a middle-aged, white progressive, ex-evangelical Influencer, one of many. Huge yawnfest. Nothing new, interesting, or unexpected in anything she has to say. Her voice is not unique at all.

Once she has a voice. She was fresh. What originally appealed to me as a similarly aged young mother of faith was that Jen was another young woman of faith who also struggled with faith and family and who was genuinely relatable.

It might have all been bullshit, of course, and I increasingly think it was all along, but at least it was a real and original voice. She wasn’t Beth Moore, an older, more remote figure. She was like us.

Younger, relatable, funny, self-deprecating, but ultimately devoted to a tough but rigorous faith, trying her best to raise a family with her husband with all the usual ups and downs of of life fully lived.

Now what is she? A brittle, anxiety ridden mess with a weird and distant boyfriend who writes gross and nauseating things on her posts when he bothers to and who has to constantly sell all sorts of crap to her “tribe” to tread water financially.

The desperation is obvious for all to see.

She lost her voice.

The Big Question is: When will she see it?

To beat the meat is most commonly associated with male masturbation.

Also remember TMP is a vegetarian so even grosser comment. I’m fairly confident he’s never gone down on a woman before.

Who even says “eat your meat”? It’s on a similar level of Steve Carrell describing breasts as “bags of sand” in the 40 year old virgin.
