Ha. I was in a little jet in Australia that day headed to the Outback with a group of people. We were curious about the Super Bowl - Green Bay was heavily favored - and we got the flight attendant to get the pilot to check on the score. We were gobsmacked when she got on the speaker and, in her Australian accent, announced, “The Broncos have won the Super Bowl.” “The Broncos??” we all shouted in unison. Memories!

Count me in as another poster who would like this show to get the geography right. The writers didn't have to set this in Pittsburgh & NJ, but they chose to do so. Having grown up in NJ, I can't help that the entire time, I'm like: where do they live that Randall (pre-breakdown) commutes into Manhattan by car in 30 minutes and yet they apparently are in South Jersey near Philly and Camden/Trenton (which is where Beth supposedly works). So, let's give them a little leeway and say that they live near Princeton, so that's over an hour commute each way by car into Manhattan. Manuel & Rebecca apparently also live in NJ, apparently near-ish to Randall? So let's say they also live near Princeton. Princeton-Pittsburgh is over 5 hours by car, so apparently Kevin drove 5 hours to get to that tree (and the Superbowl would be over by the time he got back to Rebecca's).


This drives me bananas. I had a boyfriend throughout college who was from Princeton, whose father commuted into Manhattan, and whose grandparents were all in Pittsburgh. None of what they’re portraying is possible. It’s like they’re writing it in California looking at a map saying “but those states over there are so small....”

The other thing is that the landscape is so clearly California. They go to the cabin and it doesn't look like anything on east coast. Daylight under the tree during Superbowl? Makes sense if the tree is in California (which is where they are filming this).

Why didn't they just set the damn show in California, instead of needing us to suspend belief about where this is taking place?



I like that they set it somewhere other than LA or NYC. It's refreshing to see a family story set in a normal place. And the things you're worried about... well, I would never focus on such minutiae. Especially when there's such a good story to enjoy.

I’m the one who posted about the propping up after the MRI and, yes, we used to have closer to this type of marriage. Definitely gushing love and loved spending time together (not Jack’s ability to reassure/save) but kids killed that.

Agreed. And I can't imagine propping up DH the way Rebecca does when Jack decides to get sober. There's an episode where he wants to do it alone at Miguel's, and she won't leave until he agrees to come with her, saying they'll do it together.

It was a flash forward. The social worker in that scene was grown up Tess. Randall came to have lunch with her.

EXACTLY. I suggested starting a new thread myself. It could be called, "Miniscule and Unimportant Editorial Discrepancies: This is Us." That way, the rest of us who simply want to enjoy the story and the characters, won't have to wade through that nonsense.

I think there a fair number of DCUM posters who live on the west coast (most are probably former DC residents but some probably just found this board through an internet search) so it's likely not all of these posts were written as late as you think they were.

I'm also guessing that boards like this attrack a lot of insomniacs, mothers up in the middle of the night nursing, etc who are exhausted & therefore looking to pass some time online without exerting too much brain power

The 10 “rebuttal” posts (more like vigilante pp) were by the same person no doubt.


Well, I made two of those "rebuttal" posts and I'm a local poster. I was simply up late because I couldn't sleep, as the PP correctly surmised. I'm obviously not the only one is sick to death of the constant worrying and agonizing over every.little.detail. It makes me wonder what it's like to go to the movies with people like that. Just relax and enjoy the story! The nitpicking posts ruin it for everyone else.

I'm actually surprised that Randall doesn't have an addiction gene, as both his parents were addicts. I like Randall - he makes me laugh and he's such a good father and husband - but lately, he's been so annoying. Too goofy, or something.


I think he does have an addiction gene but is hyper-aware of it and channeled it into perfectionism and drive.

PP, I feel the same way. My husband and I love each other, but not like Jack and Rebecca. Whenever I feel down about that, I have to remind myself it's all fictional. Jack is supposed to be the ideal husband (minus the alcoholism, of course). I highly doubt many people actually have a marriage like that.

That PP has a hang-up about Kate. And Rebecca obviously does not blame Kate and told her as much. Because she's normal and understands that Jack was a grown man who made his own choices.

And neither Kevin nor Randall blame Kate, either. Only the weird PP. I'm not even a dog person, yet I can completely understand why Kate was devastated, knowing her dog was inside the burning house. Any normal person would be.
