Republicans only care about the wealthy (corporations and people). They'll hold the middle and lower classes hostage to get concessions - corporate welfare or tax breaks. Then the Republicans will turn on their media hype machine to blame Dems for any pain their constituents felt. R constituents will fall for it hook, line, and sinker. Rinse and repeat.

Both Dems and Reps want the temporary subsidy increase to continue. Once they figure out how to make that happen without the Reps having to accept the blame/credit for it, then the shutdown will end.
The Rs don't want the subsidy increase to continue. If they did, they would have just voted for the Democratic CR that included them.
Look more closely.

The CR was already agreed to and the covid subsidies were not included in that, in fact that was passed a while back, why do they think bringing it up now it in any way valid to the prior passed agreement?
Its like singing to buy a house and you pass all inspections and consessions and then someone brings up they don't like the color of the floors and want to delay signing and include that.

If everyone ultimately gets back pay once this is resolved, then why isn’t the default a CR that only sustains the budget at its current rates (to ensure continued payrolls) without requiring anything by Congress?
That way any delays prompted by negotiations don’t actually impact workers. Instead, changes can be made once congress reaches agreement.
The solution seems so obvious, so please explain why this fix hasn’t been made.
Because the Democrats are trying to make things difficult. They want to make it seem like they're being strong and 'resisting' against Trump, so they are trying to drag this on as long as possible.
