Mr. Ayers was alive and ran the 5 and Dime store in Westover, Arlington. He used to offer candy to the children. It was a magical store back then and evidently still beloved by all today.

My husband remembered going to Marshall Hall as a kid. We were camping not to far away with our scouts and after the weekend was over, we went to the park (empty except for a shell of the admin building) where it was located. He has fond memories of summer boat rides there.

I worked at Fritzbes back in mid 80’s. I loved the fried zucchini, especially the horseradish sauce. Mmmm......

It was in the Montrose development right off of Montrose Rd. I'm not sure of the exact address but it was on either Mark or Wilmart Lane. Closed in 1982. There is a senior living facility there now, lol.


Correction: it was at 300 Lorraine Drive. The site is currently leased by The Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, according to this link

Thanks for answering and posting the link! There are a ton of those that I didn't know about, plus there are a lot of schools I do know about that aren't on that list! I was at Chevy Chase ES when they closed Rollingwood for low enrollment.


That was after me. I named the school newspaper--the Rollingwood Racoon's Tale!

- fireworks in then vast, empty field in downtown Springfield, in the "Kmart" shopping center

- Keene Mill Road was two lanes, with a farmers market/fruit stand on corner across from Iva Trice/A &P

- Rocking Chair theatre, ahead of its time!
