All of the ones who are genuinely good human beings (on both sides) get pushed out.

There are stories from a generation ago of congressman regularly having dinner/drinks etc. with colleagues from the other party. Compromise and "crossing the aisle" were valued. No more.

So much of this is the result of Citizens United and lack of any reform on campaign finance. It's all about the money and voting as their told so they don't get primaried out of their job.

If passed, the bill formerly known as Big Beautiful Bill, would unquestionably be a disaster for America. The corruption, fiscal irresponsibility, and callous cuts to vital social programs will have tangible and tragic ramifications. Unfortunately, even if it is defeated, I fear anything the GOP comes up as a replacement will also be horrendous.

The one bright spot is that apparently the Senate took out the court provisions. I am greatly relieved that this is one attack against our besieged court system that has been thwarted. As it is, the Supreme Court seems to be collaborating with Trump to undermine the justice system and rule of law. The last thing we need is for Congress to assist them by manipulating the budget.

I'm not sure what happens next, procedurally. But it looks like the July 4 deadline may be a miss.
