I don't think she died right away. Seems the perps were trying to get attention with the ransom notes but they weren't taken seriously early on, which explains why they started sending more to multiple outlets. There was no payment on Thursday because there had been no proof of life (maybe she'd died at that point).

I assume it was someone who had worked in her house. Maybe they wanted to rob her and she died when confronted. There are too many scenarios. It doesn't have to be the son in law.
My mother is significantly older than Nancy. I've wanted to hire a driver for her and more outside help, but my siblings and I worry about how many people know she lives by herself.
I'm in the same boat with my mom. She lives by herself in a small town, and has to park on the street and walk in and out of her house outside (no garage). She has good neighbors and we talk daily, but I think about it all the time, now doubly so.

I'm not super optimistic about the Circle K video -- seems like they are looking for any videos of any cars within a several mile radius between 1 and 3 a.m. But this article is the first time I've seen that a neighbor reported a suspicious white van (no markings) parked on her street earlier that week. Wonder if that's a rental van. I hope the police are checking that. I also think it's odd that there's a half hour break between when the front door camera is disconnected, and when the other camera records a figure . Maybe the perp unclipped the front door camera, then went to get the van to bring it to the front area.

So why aren't the kidnappers giving the family proof of life so they can collect their money and end this?
because this isn't a ransom situation. That is just a false story everyone is running with. It's unlikely she's alive. No one is going to call and try to get $ now.

I had not even interpreted things this way until I read here. I hope she has not passed away, but it sounds like that. They really need to find out the whole scenario. Was she targeted because she's associated with someone rich? Because of Savannah's job as a journalist or because of Savannah specifically? There's going to be a lot of wealthy journalists/politicians etc. begging their elders to move to fancy assisted livings or setting up high level security.

I don’t understand why people don’t think this case would not get much media attention. Savannah has hosted the opening ceremony and been a huge part of the Olympics for the last decade. She also has hosted presidential debates and anchored NBC coverage on election nights. These are events that get HUGE viewership around the country. she also hosted the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade which hundreds of millions of Americans have on in the background of their Thanksgiving preparations.
Most Americans are very familiar with Savannah Guthrie. She’s not as popular as Taylor Swift, but most Americans are going to know her and are going to be interested that her 84 year old mother was forcibly dragged from her home in the middle of the night.
Further, she hosts a national morning television show. Do you actually think that the today show wasn’t going to lead their coverage with our colleague’s Mom was kidnapped and taken from her home??!?!
Of course this was going to get national and sustained coverage. It was no surprise that the president called us out and offered her condolences.
No one with any common sense thought this wasn’t going to be a huge news story.
It was no surprise the president posted about it? Disagree. If anything this is one aspect highly suspect. When has he expressed sympathy for anyone? Hell he basically said Rob Reiner deserved to be murdered bc he didn’t support him politically.
I would have expected president to say nothing at all or call this fake news.
This is what I find suspicious also: you would expect Trump to save it served Guthrie right or something. Very out of character for him to express sympathy for anyone.
He regularly calls victims of violent crimes. The victims talk about it publicly and extensively.
He is creepy. Disgusting.
