This is not Crossfield's website. This is the website of maybe 20 people, most of whom have older kids already at Oakton and want their younger kids to go to the same high school. They've maybe joined up with 10 other people who have kids in Navy AAP and like all other Navy parents, are insane.
If it’s not crossfield’s website then why did the crossfield elementary school officially send out a newsletter with a link to this website last week?
Obviously the select few powers at be in the Crossfield PTO have their claws in the school and are driving the ship with this website and the school messaging itself. This should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows how the PTO operates.

Oh geez. I knew about the website but hadn't spent much time looking at it. "...middle schoolers who've already built years of preparation around Oakton High School". Aka one family obsessed with their "star athlete" competing at Oakton.
100% except it's two families. One preceded the other in their role, LOL
I can’t get over that phrasing. Their kids must feel a lot of pressure even if the parents don’t think they’re putting any on their kids. I can’t imagine my parents making me worry in 5th or 6th grade (or younger) about high school. No wonder so many young adults have anxiety.

Non Crossfield parent…not arguing the better for the kid part but I’m not sure about transportation cost. A significant portion of Navy ES live in Herndon and eventually goes to Oakton, the buses are already going out that way anyways. I think the bus time is a more effective argument as the FCPS isn’t saving much going an extra mile each way when there are already established bus routes.
I think you would be surprised at how many buses are not picking up Crossfield and Navy kids together. Pretty sure they are done separately for the most partt--except, of course, for the kids in the Navy Island in Franklin Farm.
There are around 400 Crossfield students going to Oakton--minus those going to South Lakes. So, well over 300. That translates to more than 6 school buses--probably more. Doubtful they are doing much combining with Navy.
That means six bus drivers at minimum. The route is more than 15 minutes in a car at best. Certainly, the buses take more than 30 minutes--after last pick up. Likely 40 minutes. This is for one run. One way.
KAA is closer. Much, much closer for most. Likely, 15 minutes MAX from last pickup--Again, 6 bus drivers minimum who are available to do an additional run for another school. This frees up more buses and more bus drivers.
I'm not sure where you get 400. Crossfield has really small classes. Probably 60-70 each year.
Crossfield has 314 in grades 3-6 plus 51 at Navy--which brings the number to 365--and some go to South Lakes.
The six buses was a minimum --assuming 300 at 50 kids per bus--which is a full bus. And, of course Navy Island goes from Franklin Farm, so it is likely 8 buses. Not an insignificant expense. Drivers, maintenance, gas, and time adds up.
If they do not make this a traditional high school the School Board will be bowing to political pressure. Not a good look when we all know the school is needed.

The only people who want a magnet are the ones who don’t want their kids to go to Western. The CIP has a Western High School for 20 years because it’s desperately needed. I know there’s a group that wants kids shuffled until every high school in the country is at 105%, but that’s how we end up with crazy looking boundaries and high schools that don’t have a community feel.
