“It has a mistake in it,” said Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern, the top Rules Committee Democrat, on the floor Wednesday. He said Republicans “don’t have an escape hatch if they start it and realize they don’t have the votes” as the key consequence.

As currently written, the rule does not “order the previous question” nor does it prohibit “intervening motions.” Long story short, that means once the House begins debate on the procedural measure, Johnson doesn’t have a ripcord he can pull to delay or reschedule voting. Moreover, Democrats would be free to deploy a variety of delay tactics, including motions to adjourn or table the measure.

McGovern added that Republicans will probably offer an amendment to fix the issue, but argued that if Republicans “can’t get a one-paragraph rule right,” they shouldn’t be trusted to pass an 870-page bill touching taxes, health care, defense and more.

Fixing the rule would require another floor vote — and another test of Republican unity — before they can take action on the party’s signature legislation.

Also that trickle down economics works- give more money to the “job creators” and you’ll benefit, right? Plus a lot of the negative impacts are delayed- until after the midterms of course.

Then people need to call their congress people. I was talking to a friend who works on the hill who has consistently heard from republican colleagues that more of their constituents are calling in favor of the bill than against. Granted these are republican districts but it tells you it’s not THAT unpopular with the base. Probably some are ignorant but I also suspect the polls are kinda wrong- remember when people were afraid to admit they supported Trump? Now apply that to Project 2025 and the BBB. This is what they voted for!

I saw an interesting point on this last evening. The person said that the GOP knows internally that a blue wave is coming in 2026, so delaying the massive cuts to happen until after that point will help the GOP because Dems will be in power when they go into effect and the GOP can stand back and say, "Look what the Dems did! We had things perfect and they effed it up again!" That will ensure public anger with the Dems and props up the GOP to win the 2028 Presidential election.

Not a chance of this happening. The egregious actions inflicted by this administration will not be forgotten. Everything prior to this bill and what’s to come will result in a midterm bloodbath.

The house still has procedural and substantive power to disrupt the bastardized bill. They could reject the Senate's version and demand further changes. They can obstruct legislation, demand recorded votes on procedural motions and amendments, toss in some irrelevant amendments, and delay conference committees. They should disrupt and delay!

Trump threatening Senate and House Rep seats is such an amateurish play. Double down on TACO.

I have no faith at all in maga or the GOP usual suspects. And you’re right, my selective faith is waning with Dems and this bill.

Which is why it’s Important to elect democrats what will fix it for good. All of the collaborators go to trial.
