Sure, I understand that. I have a 7 year old, I don’t know what I’d do. What about the rest of this? What is going on with this comment thread — does anyone else feel shocked at the lack of engagement of on-scene officers? Anyone else willing to call cowardice out as plain, bald, cowardice?
I’m willing to withhold judgement until much more is known and verified. There are conflicting accounts. If the shooter was confronted by the resource officer after he entered the building — which is one scenario that has been reported — then it’s possible the presence of other children prevented a firefight. The officer had something like 9 bullets. The shooter at least 210.

Law enforcement officers know better than anyone the devastating effects of these weapons and that they are no match for them carrying their standard issue 9mm handguns.
People are outraged about the delay in LEOs entering the school. Those kids and teachers were dead within minutes of his entering that classroom. There are articles on the internet by trauma surgeons describing the damage to the human body caused by high velocity bullets from assault weapons. These wounds are nearly always unsurvivable, even with immediate medical attention.
WAKE UP PEOPLE. GET OFF THE INTERNET AND GET INTO THE FIGHT FOR GUN SAFETY LEGISLATION. I live in a state where these weapons are still banned, as well as high capacity magazines. The relief is real. Go out there and get involved and make it happen for your kids, too.
Some were dead instantly, I'd wager at least a few bled out while cops waited outside.
Clearly because 5 of them didn’t die until later that day or the next at the hospital.

I agree. It would be seared in my memory for the rest of my life; why should I be the only one to suffer? These gun rights idiots should own what they’ve brought to this country.

Sounds like he only made it to one combined classroom. Had the cops bought the teachers even 1-2 minutes, they could have locked and barricaded the doors. It absolutely could have mattered.

I live in a similar state with top-level restrictions. I feel your relief. But — I will not go along with ignoring the LEOs doing jack f’ing shit outside of this school and the seeming coverup by Abbott and that Uvalde mayor. The budgets for forever policing are always borne on the backs of these hideous events and now we see - after a curious delay in the shooting even being covered - that they did NOTHING. Ramos probably presumed they would come after him, which is why he stayed put. I’m not going to be quiet while only a portion of this is discussed. If you’re one of the PPs who has linked to essays about the damage done by AR-type weapons, thank you — I read at least once such posted link and it was shocking. Absolutely those children and teachers had no chance of surviving.

Take a breath. The shooter lived 3 miles from the school. He shot his grandmother and took off in her truck. The grandmother reportedly had to go to a neighbor’s home for help. It’s presuming quite a bit to say there was time for a lockdown.
What’s potentially more interesting is why school doors were not secured. One e we oiled think this is a primary responsibility of the resource officers. It has been reported that school policy was to keep classroom doors locked. Was that done? There are also reports that classrooms were interconnected with doors. I think we’ll have to wait and see but I have little confidence in anything approaching the truth coming from DPS under Abbott and Paxson or a town with the Trumpyist of Trumpy Mayors.
