It's a catastrophically stupid play that appeals to such a small band of constituents that he could probably get any way. It reminds me of Putin. He dug a hole and instead of course-correcting, he doubles/triples down to look like the "tough guy". If he was supposed to be the more sane/reasonable version of Trump, he's blowing that up.

Agreed. He thinks he’s gaining supporters by suggesting the building of a prison next to Disney??

Or levying a special tax on hotels in the area.

Desantis is scrambling to wipe the egg off his face. Everything is so interwoven that the solution of levying/prison/second amusement park won’t be as simple as it sounds. He tried to dissolve the whole reedy creek district and then realized that you can’t pluck it out of the ground like a weed without incurring a billion dollar debt that the surrounding counties would have to cover. Naturally, they didn’t like the idea. Whatever he’s thought of, I’m pretty sure the Disney lawyers are on top of it.

He should wipe the chocolate pudding off of his face and hands while he's at it

Disney has won at every turn, and the move simply exposes DiSantis' willingness to use government for his own personal agenda against businesses.

How is that pro-business?

Also Christie makes a good point here.

Good soundbite, but bob iger could run circles around all of them. He is more qualified to run the country than all those buffoons

That’s basically Chris Christie’s point. Bob Iger, however, is not running for president.

Right?? The exception I can see here though is similar to Trump - businesses that think they can be the GOP whisperer, that they are the ones who can sooth erratic Republican execs and lawmakers. Didn't work with Trump and probably not going to work here.

He was obviously joking. I hope we don't have to pretend this is a serious comment and listen to people argue the merits.

Don’t you think that’s a really weird thing to joke about?

That's the nature of humor. I just can't deal with people pretending that DeSantis is drawing up plans to build a state prison next to Disney when he clearly isn't.

At this point, it seems like DeSantis is unlikely to win. The charges against Trump basically secures him as the nominee. And, DeSantis is pushing his luck with the 6 week abortion ban and not being able to let the Disney thing go. So I can't deal with people pretending to take seriously every random joke he makes, it's just dumb and tiresome.

The guy is utterly lacking in a sense of humor. When have you ever seen him make a joke? What reason do you have to believe this is a joke? He's a petty, mean, thin-skinned man who eats pudding with his fingers. This thing with Disney is so absurd that it's almost like the plot of a satirical novel - like I could see Tom Perrotta writing this. I would totally read that, by the way, if you're listening, Tom Perrotta.

Democrats may have a shot at 2024, if Republicans split between a man who will be portrayed as uncouth and unlikeable in the primary, and a man accused of multiple felonies.
DeSantis is ramping up this aggressive talk because right now conservatives are on an anti-LGBT kick (they've beaten the abortion horse to death, and BLM has calmed down). This is all Presidential campaign positioning, and making a national name for himself on the conservative issue of the day. Whether actual restrictions on Disney follow is less important than how he talks about it on TV...

The abortion horse is alive and kicking and will carry the election. The republicans will not be able to outrun it.

I think Disney will be DeSantis’ downfall in the long run. The feud highlights what a humorless and obsessively petty man he is.

It’s nothing but political posturing. Unless you’re a queer person that’s collateral damage.
