I read The Joy of Sex when I was 12.

A neighbor had it and I devoured it during several evenings of babysitting while the kids were in bed.

It was extremely informative. It also led to me putting of sex until after college.

Knowledge is power.

Second, what grade was this allegedly in?

You don't want your kid reading about life, forbid them to checkout books unless you approve.

Here's the thing. When I went to college, the WORST kids, were those that came from families that wanted to protect their innocent eyes from anything. OMG, it was scary!

Today, kids see everything on their phones. Just because you think you are protecting your little snowflakes, they can see whatever they want, whether it's on their phone or their friend's phones.

All you can do is expose your kids and talk to them about it. If you don't they will still get the info, just from places you don't want them to.

Sex is a part of life. It should be taught early.

Most people get that interest in sex and sexuality is natural in kids and teenagers, and books — both non-fiction and fiction— that are age appropriate have a place in school libraries.

Personally, I’ll go further and say that I’d rather have kids reading about sex instead of or before actually experiencing sex, especially if their interest is primarily rooted in curiosity. I’ll add that a few parents should not get to determine what’s available and what’s not to a school full of students, or a county of students. If someone wants to restrict their own kid’s reading, that’s fine.
