Why are you at family functions if you and your husband have been shunned?

I'm white and married a Latino guy and we've been married for 25 years. My progressive friends and family embraced it while the conservatives in my life have been very lukewarm about it and some have shunned it (my father actually stopped speaking to me and never saw my daughter. Never once. She is now 22. My brother once said that MAYBE he'd consider having us over. He didn't know because he's never had a black man in his house and would have to think it over). My husband is a C-Level executive at a major corporation and out earns all of my cousins' spouses and partners and yet at family functions he is spoken to like he's a day laborer by the conservatives in my family while the progressives are completely interested in him and engage him in intellectual conversation (and not that there is anything wrong with being a day laborer but they literally seem to think he hangs out in the Home Depot parking lot looking for construction jobs). Additionally, before we married, it was my conservative circle of friends who kept asking if he was here legally and did he have a green card. One even insisted I show her his birth certificate. I'm pretty middle-of-the-road, with probably more conservative-leaning tendencies but I've definitely seen a divide with how folks react to him and to our marriage. He actually leans more conservative as he was raised in a conservative Catholic household and even that doesn't gain him any traction with the Evangelicals in my family. I've learned to largely ignore it but overall when I do think about it, it seems I've had a different experience here with how progressives and conservatives have reacted. To the husband's credit, he seems to take everything in stride and never seems to get annoyed at reminding my uncle during Thanksgiving that he has no idea how to fix the hole in his drywall.

Can progressives be performative? Sure. But everyone can be. Maybe it's more a people issue than a side-of-the-aisle issue though. There are good people everywhere doing good work. Some of the time you never even know it because they don't talk about it.

The ONE pic of Tyler without his sunglasses, where he has his arm around her shoulder, he looks absolutely miserable! It reminds me of when my kids just lean onto me when they're exhausted. I will never be convinced this relationship is anymore than a "made in PR heaven" obligation.

I wonder if Tyler is quieter in person than online. I know people with loud online voices who are very introverted IRL. I can't imagine people would want to travel with him if he is banging on about being black and brilliant all the livelong day.

Jen seems to be a LOT. Few guys in their 50s and older want an overly-emotional partner at this stage. They want an emotionally mature playmate (lowercase p) to share life with. And not to make everything a photo op.

Jen may do well with a younger guy, in his mid-30s.

Bingo. She has someone, even if people are probably giggling and rolling their eyes behind her back about who Jen is with. I'm not saying Brandon is a huge catch or anything but Tyler has got to be embarrasing to be seen with. It's all about saving face with her and announcing a breakup or that they've just decided to be friends & that she's whole and healed is going to elicit pity instead of the empty "You two are couple goals."

& as cute as Jen is, she's 50. Men between 40 and 60 want women in their 30s. Men over 60 are looking toward needing someone to take care of them. She has "someone" therefore she is wanted. Doesn't matter if he's a garbage boyfriend & that she spends most of her time alone

like a lot of you i dont think the relationship is fake. I think it is exactly what it looks like - an immature man who limits what hes' able to give and a desperate woman who is still traumatized from her divorce, probably still loves her ex & would rather have someone more like Brando or her friends husbands. She's settled for him because he's agreed to be her bf on his terms. even though she'd like something better, it's all she has for now and letting him go would be embarrassing. As long as she's willing to put up w/it, Tyler's not going anywhere. Why would he? He doesn't have to do much & gets tremendous benefit to being JH's boyfreind.

Her fangirls fawn all over tyler bc he checks a box. She's dating him and so by being behind it and fawning over it we're all checking the box for equality. Deep down, every fawning corneater would not want to date that guy. Jen wouldn't either if she had otpions

I don't think I've ever looked at Tina's profile except for maybe one time and for some reason she blocked me...I mean...ok. I have no idea what would have prompted her to block me. I think I clicked on her profile from one of Brandon's posts.

It is funny how quickly Jen and Kristen pivoted from adulation of their husbands to vilifying them Kristen used to tag her first dh on IG as #shirtlessMark.

I just peeked at this hashtag and the photos are all still there. Oh my. Then I went down a rabbit trail on her ex's instagram and it does look like he is remarried and living in North Carolina with his new wife and her kids. That is pretty shitty for his own kids. I think their youngest is just starting high school. He has his new wife tagged and it looks like she's a divorce mediator and a wannabe influencer. He sure has a type.

In one of the videos I am not for sure, but I think his new wife is throwing shade on Kristen. She is talking about meeting her ex's partner and basically saying sometimes it doesn't go well because your ex's partner might be an unhappy person. I am taking that her first meeting with Kristen didn't go well LOL. But this is super petty to post about it and imply it's just because Kristen is miserable.

In other videos she's talking in detail about her clients (their ages and details about their sex life) which is odd. I just don't get how so many counselors are such messy people in real life.
