If you don’t like her, that’s cool. Plenty of other artists out there to choose from, but some of the mental gymnastics to land on “hate her” is too much. Just say you don’t like her, you don’t need to act like she’s single handedly responsible for ending world hunger. That’s absurd. She does more than we know of most likely.

It is SO weird to me why anyone who dislikes something would be obsessed with letting everyone know about it. Do they feel cool? The TS and MM people are the same.

Why spend so much time and energy complaining about things and artists you DON’T like? Get a hobby or find something you DO like and get on with your life. Weird.

Because she can’t sing. She fooled me, but I have exited the cult.

Actually, that’s not a fair criticism anymore. I just listened to a podcast that follows pop culture and they had a renowned vocal coach on to say that Taylor Swift now in fact can sing. she was contrasting this album with her early work saying that earlier in her career it was well accepted that Taylor wasn’t a great singer, but that people accepted that because of her lyricism and storytelling. But now she’s clearly been training no doubt to be able to sing for 3 1/2 hours a night during her 18 month tour and all that work has paid off.

I won’t bother to tell you which podcast it is unless someone wants to know cause I don’t expect her haters to go listen, but she was giving specific examples throughout the album and saying how difficult it is to hit those ranges. She’s saying Taylor has exceptional control over her voice, her range, and her abilities to control her voice and her breath. Probably as a result of all the preparation for the world‘s biggest tour.

How much did they pay that vocal coach?

All you have to do is listen to her try to sing on the voice notes she has released with TLOAS. She can't sing. Shellback and Martin try to steer her in the right direction, but she won't listen to their advice and/or can't do it.

The voice notes show that she doesn't listen to constructive criticism. She thinks she is amazing.

In one voice note for "Ruin the Friendship," she tells them she has this "amazing lyric." This is what she called "amazing": "My advice is always ruin the friendship/ Better that than regret it / For all time"

If you think that is amazing, wonderful. I don't agree.

Now, let's move on to her singing it. She sings "Ruin the Friendship" out of tune.

Without autotune doing the work for her, she'd be cooked and everyone would know. If you are an audio engineer, you know how hard autotune is working to make her sound good.

That is why audio engineers at an undisclosed stadium were laughing at her singing out of tune. They could hear the real audio feed in the booth--and not the corrected version. Her singing is that bad.

She’s up to 40 album variations.

Streaming for her music on Spotify is down, much more than the usual 30-40% after the first week of a new album.

How is a deal with Disney a money grab that affects you in any way? She made a business deal with Disney- she’s not charging per view. If you have Disney or Hulu, you can watch without paying anything extra. I fail to see how this is anything gross. Many people, myself included, are really curious about behind the scenes of that tour. I’m more interested in that than the new album. I have Disney so I’ll watch without a single dime leaving my wallet. Now tell me again why you’re bitter?

If you were trying to start it conspiracy that the album was a flop or something it’s not going to work. Of course the album streaming has gone down, everyone and their mother streamed it 1 million times the first week it came out. It sounds like a lot of people who don’t like Taylor also streamed it so that they can pick on it. I think that’s something that doesn’t happen with those other artists. There’s going to be a drop off.

It is legitimately a good album that a lot of people are enjoying and will continue to enjoy. You can wish the people just stop streaming, but it’s going to be a success. I have no idea how it will compare to the success of her other albums, but it’s not going to be a flop.

Hi, I also like “Father Figure” and “Ruin the Friendship” a lot, as well as “The Life Of A Showgirl.”

A few songs on the album are growing on me. Wi$h Li$t & Father Figure, but my favorite is Ruin The Friendship. I can’t prove it, but I don’t believe it is about her wishing she had kissed a boy in high school or at least it’s not just about it. I feel that song is somehow connected to Question ?.

If only you had an option to not buy her album.

+ a million
These dopes are so entertaining. As if anyone is being forced to buy, well, anything.

Spotify forces her music on us even if we do not listen to it.

She’s in the marketing for random companies. Other companies include her lyrics in their promo.

Buying an album or not does not matter if she is everywhere.

No one is forcing anyone on you. One way you could avoid her is by ignoring threads about her. But you do exactly the opposite. Such a victim.

It’s such a good point. I find it really hard not to purchasing things from billionaire Jeff Bezos. Washington Post is my local paper and I like to support the press but subscribing to the post means I’m supporting him since he owns it.

I truly admire people who have given up Amazon prime - the problem is Amazon has single-handedly put so many other businesses out of business that sometimes it really makes economic sense to shop at Amazon.

Bezos is someone who has made his billions by insidiously in some ways creeping into my life without asking. Where is Taylor puts out art and it is 100% optional if you want to buy or not. Even if you just want to listen to her music and watch her documentaries, you can basically do that for free if you’re subscribing to other services. So it’s possible to own and enjoy her entire album collection and not pay a cent to her. Or even more obvious, not download or listen to a thing if she’s not your cup of tea.

That’s why I get really annoyed at the comparisons with other billionaires.

You are comparing a service (amazon which serves as a “marketplace/warehouse and delivery service” with someone who is creating a product.Taylor makes a product, and sells her lifestyle/social relationships. She isn’t a service. SHe is selling goods.

As an artist/product maker, Taylor can choose how to package her goods. Some artists choose to attempt to go against using mass marketing techniques (ex. releasing only one album, or going against Ticketmaster) and create music and sell it or let the label market it.

Some artists choose to use mass marketing techniques (like scarcity and selling “out of a product in 45 minutes- get it NOW!) or limited releases to make more money. Some start marketing clothes and wearing them while getting “seen” wearing those same clothes in public.

Some artists use blogs or ticket give always to generate interest.

But a service (cable TV, amazon, etc) they don’t MAKE things, they deliver things (cable, books etc). Jeff Bezos isn’t creating anything and there is a distinct difference in Bezos and Taylor’s businesses. Both can use their knowledge of people and marketing to make money by using unfair practices. Those practices can be different, but that doesn’t make those practices more or less predatory. In some countries, the way Taylor sells tickets and uses scarcity to make money is against the law. Not here, but I think Australia was one.
