She really isn’t considering she uses uncredited black artist as ghost singers on most of her hits. A large majority of her chorus were sung by Ashanti, Brandi, etc.
Everyone uses ghost singers/background singers especially on dance pop records . Madonna used background singers most obviously on her first album especially on Holiday and Lucky Star. Mariah C. as well. Beyonce had Destinys Child background vocals on all her early recordings. Taylor has used Lana Del Rey’s vocals on some of her songs which is why she thanked her so pointedly at the last Grammy Awards.
Britney also had the demo recordings stil loud in the mix on all her hits. Toxic is mostly Cathy Dennis’s vocals esp the high notes .
J Lo somehow gets maligned for things that are standard pop star practice . I don’t understand why she gets maligned for being a manufactured pop star
This. Pop is a heavily manufactured musical genre and is much more about stage presence, dance, hooks, and having an appealing persona. JLo is a genuinely talented dancer who works really hard at her routines for videos and concerts -- she's a perfectionist. It's not like she's styled herself as a virtuosic singer like Mariah or Whitney and it's a sham. She's exactly what she appears to be -- I dance-focused pop act with Latin influence.
Mariah and Whitney actually started as ghost/ demo singers/ background singers back in the 80s . They used to sing the demos written by songwriters so the songwriters (who can’t sing) can shop those songs to other established artists in the industry. But back then, artists didn’t dare keep the full demo vocals at 100% volume in the mix of the actual recording .
Mariah was also a back up singer for another Puerto Rican singer named Brenda K Starr. Brenda also used to auditioned with her band and singers at the same studio J Los dance company rehearsed. There’s a rumor Mariah and Jennifer’s feud goes back to these years in Manhattan because they shared mutual friends and saw each other during industry run ins

The hair and makeup alone in the Atlas promos were off putting and absurd. I could see her doing well as an older actress if she can just let going of needing to be “hot” at all times.
+1, and to ignore the racism in the major awards academies as though they are an objective measure of someone's talent or skill is deranged. The Golden Globes, in particular, are notorious for being racist, insular, and engaging in a lot of nepotism -- the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a deeply correct organization and was even more so during the height of these actor's careers. That's not a knock on Garner -- she was good on Alias and she deserved to be recognized for her work. But it is classic that the GGs have her Best Actress in a Drama during a time when actresses like Edie Falco, Allison Janney, and Frances Conroy were doing really amazing work with rich, textured roles. GG loves to reward an ingenue in a kind of shallow role and always has. It does not mean that Garner's performance on Alias was more worthwhile than those other actors who were, frankly, working at a much higher level.
She’s untalented. A jack of all trades and a master of none. It’s laughable that you would insinuate racism has held her back from being awarded. She’s had a great career, made millions of next to no talent.
This is why she needs to leave her pop star and Hwood starlet ambitions behind and try Broadway . That’s the only way to prove she is a real singer/dancer/actress triple threat. Does she have the vocals/ chops for her beloved musicals (musical theater were her original auditions since she lived in the city, not a record deal or movies )? She really tries. She sang live during SNL and it was ok -just not very good or great for Broadway . I can see why she went the pop star route and movie star route since she had the looks .
The talent however is still a question
