Read the post from memory lane, the poster talked about yorktown being strong if those players that decided not to play came back this year, and minus the injuries. If all of that happened, then yorktown would be a different team. I think mnost who know the game could agree on that. Since they lost those key multiple players, they are not the same team.

Oakton this year, but make no bones about it, it's the only year they have a shot at states as they have nothing coming up in the pipeline after their core senior group graduates and will suffer for years. They have 2 very good middies but it will boil down to how well the coach understands his players strengths and weaknesses and of course not riding his players into the ground to prevent injury. Oakton is very predictable at what they do, if they change it up, they could go all the way.
Yorktown is right behind Oakton, pending if the rumors are true and a couple key players decide not to play this year. Strong head coach that knows the game and how to teach the game, excellent at planning ahead for big games.
Battlefield looks very good this year with a solid goalie and core group of seniors. Question is- can they hang with the top Fairfax County teams
Woodson will always be in contention to fight for states, couple solid players and goalie position with some key veterans coming back. Question is- can the coach actually coach his players and come up with a good game plan.
Robinson will be in contention as well as they always have athletes but lost some key players from last year. Some decent talent coming up the ranks but do they have the horses to keep up with the other teams mentioned above??
Langley lost a ton of players last year but is on the way down to being an average public school team. Their achilles heal is their head coach, she has no respect from the players and parents and doesnt understand how to use her players wisely and actually coach in big games. With that said, they will be way stronger on defense as a whole with a rock solid goalie and a couple athletic defenders to anchor her. Offense will be mediocre at best with only really one attacker and middie.
Cville- This is my pick for my sleeper team, dont count them out as they have a great coach who knows the game and building a solid program. They have a couple athletes that can play, but their weakness will be on defense. Don't take them lightly as they will come back to bite you.
Madison- Couple returning seniors but they will be slightly above average but will not make a run at states. Just like Langley, their reign is over and on the downfall. Their coach needs to step up and start building the program from the youth on up, some decent younger talent but they will rely heavily on a couple seniors.

Again, just my opinion, you are welcome to disagree, but i think the big factor will be injuries. If one of these teams loses a key player or two, they are cooked.

It’s fun to go down memory lane, isn’t it? This is from late January. Yorktown “right behind” Oakton. Madison “slightly above average.” Great analysis

Regular season games are fine and fun and most certainly will help set the tone for districts, etc... But it's going to come down to preparation in Districts, Regionals and States. How well can coaches understand their opponents, can coaches make adjustments on the fly and prep their players to perhaps show a different look the second or third time around from when they played team XX. And the players have to believe in their game plan and execute on certain situations. All the coaching in the world won't make a difference unless the players can execute. These are just some examples, but put all of that together, and hopefully you have a recipe for success.
Some teams from what I have seen (Oakton) have a habit of not changing a thing and relying on pure lax and athleticism, and that might work for the majority of the teams week schedule, but not vs more difficult opponents. Other teams (EX. Cville, Madison) you can tell the coaches adjusted and made positive changes as the season goes on and always looking to keep their opponents on their toes. Almost forgot, then their is the injury report that could cause havoc on a team, etc...
I believe there are 4-5 teams that separated themselves from the pack, and the win can go either way on any given night.
Should be a real fun and exciting home stretch and playoffs.

The regular season basically reveals the tiers and who will be competitive in the district playoffs. Top tier is Oakton, Madison, Robinson and possibly Centerville (depending on the injury situation) and Battlefield. Next tier is West Springfield, South Lakes, and possibly West Potomac. I don’t see anyone else in the running. A close regular season loss between top tier teams doesn’t mean much. Teams can have off games, or get surprised by a super motivated team. The one and done of the playoffs tends to focus players more.

Happened with Yorktown who was beat bad by Langley (14-5) in a regional game last year but won when it mattered. I would be hesitant about crowning any team now or writing off any team in the top 10-12, especially in such a wide open year.

Well said, everyone around here thinks 1 mid season game is making or breaking team's seasons. Take a breath and enjoy the ride, lots of good games upcoming.

Solid points. Woodson best result might be the loss to battlefield or oakton

worthless input: Don’t say Woodson who lost 7-5 to the anointed champs Battlefield? What’s your beef with Woodson? Seem like a Concorde hater also. State champs come from the Concorde this year. You can only play the schedule you have. Seems like Concorde teams have a more robust schedule than the rest of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

My worthless input on buckts top 5. With a positive and potential issue to overcome.

Oakton- big time top level playmakers with impressive stats. What is their signature win this year vs good team? Bullis? Check that schedule and reconsider. Please don’t say Woodson

Centreville- big time top level playmakers with impressive starts and a pending bbq. Are they deep enough? This week will tell more. Better than Madison result vs battlefield and oakton or early season pretender?

Madison-trending and solid across the board with some underrated and unknown talent. Probably best resume of result vs caliber of opponent. Can they prove legit and shut down a top tier offense and their go to players? Didn’t vs Potomac. Didn’t vs centreville. Rise up Warhawk vs oakton and we believe.

Robinson-trending hard. Very good top 5. Weak district. Huge battlefield win. Roll vs Centerville as expected. Struggling to find negative here as we type. Real threat for title

Battlefield-big time talent that will roll untested to playoffs. Is that good or bad? My guess yo win it all at this point.

Madison plays BOC tonite which should be easy win for them. This game should be a pick’em or -1 Oakton for home field. Smack talking begins Tuesday morning from the crazies on this thread.

The Oakton -6 line probably comes from the same person who made Centreville a favorite as well vs Madison. I am taking the 6. We'll see what Oakton does vs SSSA. If it is ugly the line could move quite a bit.

SSSA is not that good this year. Very beatable.

Monday's game against Westfield will determine the 4 seed in the Concorde. Will show if SL is real or not.
